After such and so many years of stuffing all the money I could into IRAs and whatnot, I approach the point at which the gub'mint requires that I take some of it out. Going to sit with a broker today to set that up.
We've had quite a few days of almost no snow falling, but it has managed to plate the ground with white. Now three days of cold. The sun, however, is winning.
I have managed to schedule this season smack full of riding events, organized and not. Hilarie was mildly complaining about it a couple of nights ago; I observed that if she'd give herself a vacation from her compulsively self-imposed routine tasks, we could travel or do whatever she might find amusing. The odds are low that she will do so.

Cold and snowy here in the ROC this morning. Had to brush off about 4" of fresh snow off of the car. Although with the way this winter has been the snow will be melted and gone by the end of next week.
'Morning!! Half day of work today on account of a 1:00 doc appointment. This initial consultation is a prerequisite for the appointment that I actually need (upper endo) even though I also saw my primary doc and he ordered the procedure. Not to mention the insurance crap and getting my records from my old doc. I have made way too many phone calls for this. Hooray healthcare. And yes, I swam this morning.

I have emailed in sick for today. Must confirm it by calling at 8. I finally succumbed to whatever crud is going around the house: both kids are sick with fever last night (fun bedtime with that), wife has been sick, and my mother has a somewhat ominous cough no doubt acquired from my sister's kids last week.
Ugh. Dress rehearsal for my wind ensemble tonight so I hope I perk up quickly.

Good news, aunt is doing better, kidney functions are up and she is off the ventilator. Still a long way to go but promising.

Haley woke us up this morning because when she went to feed Layla the bowl wasn't in the fridge. She wakes up around 5am every day (despite going down at 8pm) and that wakes up the dog who wants to get fed. We've started putting a bowl of food in the fridge for the dog and leaving baggies of snacks for her. Kind of a good setup. The other parent's from class were shocked that at 3 1/2 Haley is feeding the dog and taking care of herself in the morning. I'm thinking that we've got a smart on here. Also, she's doing addition now. It's all +1, but she understands the logic.
Went to the dentist this morning for my broken* tooth. Apparently my teeth are shifting and one raised a bit messing up my bite. Adjusted down a bit and all better. Love that my dentist doesn't jump at the ability to do fillings and crowns. It's hard to find a good dentist these days.
Getting ready to leave for Puerto Rico on Friday evening.

Fuck our healthcare system. My drugs (anti-seizure) have been covered by our insurance to the tune of $45/quarter going back 2 years. Our company changed the policy slightly (same plan number, etc) and added non-generic drugs to your deductible. I just spent $3400 for 3 months worth of drugs and it only took $2640 off my $6000 deductible.
Shit like this is why I'm voting for Bernie. We need to get our country caught up with the rest of the civilized world and have universal healthcare. I don't care if it has us paying slightly more in taxes, because the healthcare costs will clearly offset the difference. I'm lucky in that we can pay for this. If we didn't have the extra cash flow, I'd be a walking time bomb.
