Thank you. It looks like the bike made it to Dickinson early this morning so my level of optimism is significantly higher again.

Now for something entirely different. Wife has decided she wants to go vacationing to SD three days after I come back home from ND. We're likely staying in Rapid City, any suggestions for good times there? :)

As of 0943 MST it's not finished, I tend to copy a previous pack list since a lot of the items are the same (camping stuff, for instance) and then modify as needed. If anyone else has a pack list to share, I'm all for it. As for ride pack items, I will go with my standard setup which is basically everything I can fit in an Osprey Raptor 14. I have no fewer than eleventy koozies on my person at all times. Seriously. Always a koozie in my camelsak, koozie or three in the center console of truck, 4-7 koozies in the camp box, etc. I think there's now a koozie that has been dedicated to the beverage holder of my camp chair... so take that!

My current plan is to be at the camp site late Thursday afternoon but will still use my room in Dickinson as its not refundable and 2 less nights of dirt sleeping.

Also concerned that my pack list is a bit light... I don't even know what pajama pants are?

3 pairs of gloves? I was planning on washing out the stinkyness and hoping it won't come back for 3 days. :)

All packed and ready for a reasonably early start tomorrow. I dropped a number of superfluous things from my list due to way too much crap. No gopro and no camera but did include an LED lamp. I have decided to take the hardtail, I watched dozens of video of the trail and cannot see a reason to pedal 32 pounds when I can pedal 22 pounds. Plus hardtail has better bits, XT has always been reliable for me where Sram has been.

Phase 3 of grocery shopping is complete (no pics, pre-trip chaos in the house...)

We have the group meals covered -- pending humongous appetites and dietary restrictions.

I'm bringing charcoal for Friday night's bbq potluck and will have brats, corn, potatoes, salad and a 2 lb salmon filet but y'all can pick up some MORE MEAT to grill if you're so inclined.

And of course BEER!

I'm going to be VERY full re: cooler space, so if anyone has an empty cooler (or just more space) we can fill it at the campsite until the food starts to disappear.

I think the only other necessities would be MORE CHOCOLATE, COOKIES/TREATS and any favorite snacks for your biking time.

Edited to add: if those with pickups see abundent firewood en route, it may make sense to pick up some wood for campsite pyrotechnics. I'll be almost at car capacity with food/cooler combo.

I slept in until 7AM. That felt good. I'll be on the road within 2 hours or so. The bakery does not open until 9 so that was a good excuse. I have not seen firewood for sale in a long time, I will check at my gas stops to see what is available.

  1. @johnbryanpeters really doesn't give a shit.
  2. @StiHacka corners like a roadie.
  3. @Montana rider actually has a bong shed, and he'll get there, eventually.
  4. @Pesqueeb still has a champion 1,000 mile stare.
  5. @Serial Midget is taller than advertised, but not by much.
  6. @TreeSaw is a dirty old man in a chick's body.
  7. @sq-earl is fully aware that happy wife = happy life.
  8. @Nick always bails.
Fuggin' awesome trip, y'all. That was a lot of beer drinking, punctuated with a crapload of cow shit and a fuckton pedaling. Bueno!

Green cow shit is the freshest cow shit. Also currently having a burger and chips in Lewistown MT. Will be home soon. Also this trip with these monkies was so epic the NY Times travel edition took our pictures. Boo yeah.

11. Big-ass long travel trail bikes are awesome even for this XC marathon.
