In hell. Welcome!
Good to see you're still alive! :D
I came back from the Midwest with some nasty deep sitting cough. Snow storm coming tomorrow. Work sucks. Job opportunities are even worse. No riding in the foreseeable future because effing weather. Y dafuq am I still here?

What used to be acres of wetlands before the tender embrace of industrial agriculture in the late 1970s brought in a dragline to drain them is flooded and serving as a motel for thousands of Canada and snow geese, who are feeding and raising a magnificent din.

Otherwise, coffee and a trip north to discuss MTB access politics.

Signed papers a couple of days ago that supposedly ensure that our little empire up here eventually goes to a non-profit, with guaranteed access to MTB, no logging, no development, yada-ya...

Mornin!

Methinks a ride this afternoon is just what the doctor ordered before the white fluffy stuff returns on Saturday. Until then I shall slave away. Tax returns were filed last night, so I suppose I shall look forward to Uncle Sam giving back the money that I so generously loaned him interest free.

mmmn made the coffee just right this morning, strong but not bitter and a tad on the oily side which leaves a good after taste. Definitely feeling the after effects of last nights sweat fest on the elliptical, legs, and shoulders are protesting this morning...tough noogies.

I think I may go for a long ride in the dirt this weekend as the trails are not muddy slop anymore.

They say snow is on the way. They say freezing rain is on the way. They say there is a special weather statement for today.

I say I am going riding tonight because I didn't get to go out last night, other than around the block the mountain bike.

I presented two workshops to tiny audiences. Oh well. No different than publishing articles few people read.

Whenever I hear you talk about publishing articles it makes me think you'll go down as one of the most prolifically published authors that nobody has ever heard of/read.

toshi, on what topics do you lecture and publish?

Slept in a little this morning, as I am sort of on Nevada Time and sort of on Georgia Time. did some calisthenic type exercising this morning, At the shop now, trying to find meaningful (and billable) things for the carpenters to do and I need to make final stagehand assignments for next week, as I am bachelor starting tomorrow, so I am leaving Tuesday night for a few days at the beach in Nor Cackalacky.

This is pretty common in academics. Most of the journals I publish in have impact factors under 2. This means the average article is cited under 2 times, iirc.

The game is to publish, not to publish meaningfully.

Intersection of programming and radiology, lately. Things we should be doing but aren't because we can't do the relatively trivial math in our heads.

Not gonna lie. l've had better ones. May have spent too much money on too few beers which were basically $10 each including tip.
I see you were visiting either SF or NYC.

Wifey came back last night from her final trip to SF for her company. Apparently her boss was really pushing (veiled begging) her to stay available to be a consultant and is trying to help provide her with business as such. The last time she left the company she was doing full time consulting work within two months and were paying her double her previous salary within a year. I would not be surprised to see that happen again, less the doubling of salary. A secondary amusement is that the very junior person (1 year vs 15 years) they are supposedly replacing her with hates her new team and will likely quit within a month (her words to Wifey), leaving them with literally no corporate level sales and marketing team. And the tertiary amusement is that they figured out Tuesday that Wifey was the only person doing their regular monthly market reports. They are the only income generator and sustain the business when there aren't large sales coming in, which won't happen again until late in the year.

In a massive "fuck you, you deal with your own problems" that Wifey learned about and is debating how to respond to, is that they apparently laid off the sales/marketing team and COO to hire a CEO who lives in Canada and will be travelling to SF for 10 days per year. The cost saved from getting rid of them will go to paying for the CEO. I honestly hope that ship sinks. Wifey is already talking to their primary competitor about moving to and taking a very senior position on their corporate marketing team. That would be a massive 'fuck you', because the SF market for this business is extremely small (5-6 competitors) and a large number of the senior people that have left her current company have gone to that company already.

Otherwise, meh. Client meetings went as well as expected. I did the exact thing I do internally, but in front of somebody. The field guys get paid more than internal, so I think I'm going to push to get onto the field team. I also get to take apart my dryer this weekend to replace a tensioner and belt. I might try to squeeze in a ski day or ride if it's dry enough.

What I really want to do is stay indoors and hide from the world today, but the girls are on spring break and that means we have to go go go go go and do stuff. I also must visit the shrink here in 2 hours. Think it's going to be a good day for it.

Tried my hand at Indian fry bread last night. Though the resulting turkey taco-ish meal was great, woke up this morning to the smell of too-hot smokey oil from last night. Sure, opened the windows to air out, however, we have strong winds blowing through, and rain/snow forecasted, so my drive to work today will be very interesting.....

The closest bathrooms to my carpet walled palace were recently down for 2 months so they could be renovated. They opened up two weeks ago. BOTH are now broken and closed down.

On a positive note, company policy just changed to allow for jeans every Friday and from 5/30-9/1 it's jeans every day. Woo hoo!

sounds like a poorly managed company if they're trying to retain her before she's even out the door.
5 partners, one has 52% ownership. He's the acquiring individual and voted against keeping her. He was not there for the last time it happened and apparently didn't care about the concerns and fighting of everybody else.

we've been jeans any day for a while now. and we are a BIG company that you might not expect it from.
That's actually pretty surprising. Are you in the same location as the senior mgmt teams and where clients tour?
