media blackout
I pulled that shit ALL the time in 8th grade (skipping school and smoking pot all day) until I was carted off to boarding school, where we got MUCH better drugs.
and you probably made it to class too.

a buddy of mine just sent his son off to boarding school a few months ago.

Haha, I took off once for 10 days on Dead tour. They wanted to expel me, but I proposed writing an in depth report of how the Grateful dead were the epitome of American freedom, and how I sold hundreds of Jerry postcards to get from show to show.
They bought it.
I was in pretty deep shit, though.

Currently having a conversation with a friend on le FaceBok trying to convince him that the earth is not flat. I know I will never succeed because at the base level these beliefs have a religious foundation. But it kills me cause he's not a plumber, or a roofer who has little exposure to math and science. He's a fucking chemist!!

My brain can't handle the levels of cognitive dissonance happening.

As much as I want to, that'll just get me in trouble.... gawddam cupcakes that run this country have made that illegal here...
Hey Wingnut... I'd suggest seeing a professional... the internet is full of advice, but not much of it is any good...

Granted my issues are only little (my boy is only 6), but I found this helped me a bit: http://www.livesinthebalance.org/pycc-radio-program-and-listening-library. It's not so much a philosphy or anything, but a technique to figure out what the problem is together, and come up with solutions together. Apparently he's developed the technique for juveniles in prison and such, but it works for behaviorally challenging kids.

He's got a few books too: https://www.amazon.com/Lost-School-Behavioral-Challenges-Falling/dp/1501101498/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8

I'm sorry you're going through this. you seem pretty stoic about it, but I can imagine the rage boiling inside you. I can see it in my future and it scares me to death. good luck.

Tough to pull off when he starts school 50 minutes after I have to be at work. I've tried all the nice guy things as I understand we did move him away from his childhood friends, but it's time he gets over it. I'm talking to boss to see IF I can offset my shift so I can drag him to school.... His mom can not lift him, so I'll have to do the work.
I just read this again. Your kid is probably seriously depressed. Get him some professional help and soon. That kind of stuff can simmer and just cause more problems later.

Yes! I have a few burning questions for a flat-earther, I just haven't met one.

1. Are there two sides to this flat earth? If so, what happens when you hit the boundary? Do you just automatically flip over onto the other side? Or is earth just a single flat plane?
2. How thick is flat earth?
3. Is earth the only planet that is flat? Or are some/all of the other planets flat too? Is the universe just one big flat plane with a bunch of rectangular planets floating around in it?

Yeah - I wouldn't recommend the "beating the $hit out of him" approach... regardless of the legality of the tactic.

But, then again, he's not my kid.

I've been sorely tempted before to employ this "use of force"... but my rational self tells me it will mainly only make ME feel better. So I yell a lot, which also makes me feel better. :D
he could always just drag his kid out to a busy intersection....park on the side of the road and have him do pushups until dark.

ask him to drive to the edge of the earth and take a picture of it.
Antartica is a giant ice wall that keeps everyone and everything in. It's protected by a fleet of UN vessels preventing us plebes from getting anywhere near it.

Do... not get involved. Batshit-crazy people simply CANNOT be helped.
I'm not trying to help him. I'm trying to have a public conversation with him and make his flat earth shit look stupid by systematically disproving all his talking points.

I'm honestly trying to help my scientifically illiterate friends not get bamboozled by this shit. He's been leaving his BS on friends' posts for a couple months now (interestingly enough it seemed to start with Trump being elected, hmmmmm......) and I'm not sure everyone has the facilities to see through it. One of my buddies was even believing in chem trails because he told them about it.

1.) Just one side. See my answer to Jon for more.
2.) I'm not sure their theory has been that far developed.
3.) Space is a satanic, Masonic hoax. Every image you have ever seen of space is photochop made by NASA and the Masonic World Order. We have never visited space and there are not other planets. The earth is surrounded by an impenetrable firmament (you can see the religion creeping in here).

If you guys want to have a brain aneurysm check out this YouTube channel. Lots of his shit seems to originate here.

Also, this is a depiction of what the earth really looks like

Dude. I need one that says:

THIS IS WHERE ALL THE RUM WENT

with a big arrow pointing at my gut.

Talk about family unity...
i'll take one in "beer" plz.

we've def been through some heavy stuff with our older son (almost 12); we've really worked from a variety of angles to figure things out. i'm still kind of shocked that the situation has gotten a lot better recently.

tl;dr work through it, hang in there, kids can be tough. beer.

Thats balls. I know its different, but there is no law down there that dictates how much you are paid out, if you're terminated without cause? Up here its determined by how much time has been served at the company...most people just don't know about the laws and accept whatever small payout is given.

We call it freedom from the tyranny of financial security, we don't need regulations to not pay pay our bills. :thumb:

My prior boss was Columbian and part of a company which my ex company acquired.

When they let him go, the corporate HR 'professionals' didn't handle his exit right, fucked his work visa all to hell and he ultimately had to leave the country with his family about 60 days later. :disgust1:
