In the cleavage of the Tetons
I got a ticket for building illegal trail in Teton Valley (the first one ever issued, 2007).
I put coffee cans at the local bike shops, and raised $1000 or so towards my ($250) ticket.
Then I went legit...but my trails all got adopted, and are FS trails to this day.
Something like 17 miles worth built (almost) solo.
I had two other partners in crime who were 'part time'...
I built something like four days a week for three or four summers.

I tend to do only repairs now. I have never claimed or promoted any of my trails. Many have been adopted into the systems they are in. I keep things on the down low as I feel more comfortable being anonymous. I have no concern for others politics that seem to infect the process. I am not a joining a club kind of person. I just rebuilt Danger drop. It was destroyed the next day. Zero fucks given...

One thing that's being overlooked - It's not always about GETTING ACCESS to existing Wilderness areas.

But picture a biking mecca BECOMING a Wilderness area. Say, Moab, Park City, Crested Butte, insert your favorite place to ride here...

People that have been riding in Crested Butte a long time have actually HAD this happen. Just look at the Wilderness Areas that just about surround that town...

I have no idea where I am
Only case of that happening in Wilsons that I’m aware of is maybe 15 years back when some guys built a north-shore style freeride trail. Other than that, rangers will occasionally turn people around if they see you going into a trail you shouldn’t; there was a rumor that they were parked at the bottom of that same trail a few weeks back giving out tickets...maybe it happened down in Brevard? But again, I haven’t heard of it recently...
That was the Hick Hucksters who got busted building trails in Wilsons. Rangers surrounded them with their guns drawn all SWAT style.

Do you remember what trail in Brevard that was ?

Not sure I wanna say, my name is probably still on a list somewhere.
The only instance I am aware of renegade trail builders being prosecuted is at Pinnacle. Buckingham (Larry Glazer) was trying to develop it for The Catholic Diocese and they played hardball. I will assume it was there....

No, it predated pinnacle. When I was in Rochester there wasn't much of anything there, just some basic trails and a handful of jumps, from what I heard it got built up big time after I moved away.

Intrigued. It is pretty built up. Rob and Brandon and the kids build some cool stuff I recently got a ticket for being on Pinnacle property. $50. Same cop who gave me the ticket asked me to help get a injured rider out. The judge let the fine slide. Officer Dimascio is cool with me now. Parking on the bottom is the deal breaker...

You know I helped build that?
I did not know that, but the incident I referred to happened where it's located.
