Biggest thing for me is correct diameter grips. There seems to be a fascination with really thin grips and I don't understand it for people with large hands. Grips that don't fit properly cause you grip the bars harder than you should.
The problem is that most of the largest diameter grips...
Got it. So if you're from Botswana or Mauritius then the field is weaker, I agree. You still may come in last place, but it will be 60th, not 281st.
If you're a top contender at any World Cup, then I can't see how this weaker field makes it any easier for you.

So... spend 20 years riding a 26 and then take two other sizes out for a quick lap, and this is a real comparison? No wonder they liked 26 the best. What a joke.
In my completely scientific testing on downhill trails, using the same trail bikes in 26 and 29, the 29 is definitely faster. No question. The only type of terrain where a 26 was close was in very tight switchbacks that are hard pack with loose over. The 29 is faster in tight switchbacks with...
You can tell by some of these post who actually has spent some time on a good trail oriented 29er and who hasn't. You nailed it with this. I can turn my stumpy evo 29 easier than a 26. It just takes a small adjustment to riding style. I actually find it much more fun cornering on a 29. No...
Northstar is guilty of a lot of things.
Mammoth does a much better job on all fronts. My wife and kids love going there. After a day on the lifts for me, I get to ride Uptown/Downtown with the family. I spend a lot of money at Mammoth each year and only a few lift tickets a N*.
