Holy cow, is there a difference (steel vs alum). Started riding the steel 29er and it rides less harsh and rolls things soooo much better. In fact, I did some small stuff that I have done in the past, only this time just went full bore at it and cleaned everything like it was nothing.
Wo Dude! Back to the 69er club! Way to go! You got a Skunk works going on there! How does it ride?
Rode mine this morning and it was sooo much better than it as a 26er.
Bring it tomorrow!
Sorry to hear about the fall. There is something to be said about wheels, actually the spokes them selves that make the extra length in them potentially weaker if they are not set up right.
I just did a 9 mile ride today on the gnarliest, techy dual track (ATV/MX Trails) and I have vowed to...
Hey GT, I have been riding a Fetish Fixation as a 69er and as a Mountain Bike and I am starting to notice some differences. I am riding rigid with a 20t in the rear.
The 69er definitely rolls over stuff smoother but I find the climbing, especially from a deadstop harder than having two 26er...
I will have to check that out. My 29er is steal. I should ride that and then ride my other SS with both 26er wheels and see if there is a difference in the back. Later after my rides, my back doesn't hurt but its tight. Have to see if there is a difference.
Mark, there are some stretching exercises someone recommended to me on knee pain last summer on a Bikerag post. Also, I found wearing a neoprene knee brace to make a big difference. If that makes you look too old, try a patella strap.
Well, I have heard some dudes that are getting long in the tooth complain about back pain riding a HT, and maybe that is why you went back or went to a sussy bike.
Personnally, I went from HT, to full sussy, back to hard tail (and rigid) and never felt better!
Worst case, you could always...
Well, I am a little Johnny-Come-Lately but I have been riding a Fetish Fixation Frame as a 69er and I have been loving it. Using a Surly instigator fork, only I got short changed on the steering tube and ended up having to use an Avid SAAGO stem.
Recently, I threw on a 26er wheel, and I have...
Yeah, that is how I got my daughter riding so early - she's six and already riding 20" wheels. My son is not quite ready for the trail-a-bike, probably another year. Knowing him, he'll rather want to stay in in the trailer. Never-the-less, its really fun.
OK, here are the pix on the Qball and Burley d'Lite. I had alot of fun with the Axel Skewer that I purchased. I bought the larger of the two, 165mm so I stuck a superball on the end so I won't catch anything.
Nice Kona! I love that bike. First time I have seen one geary.
OK, how about these apples: Qball a la kid transporter. Got my Qball connected to a Burley d'Lite over the weekend. My son loved it!
Pix to be posted later - have to resize them.
I think I am going to follow G's and Mark's advice on the frame: Going to get the Salsa because that is what I really want. Now I just have to find a way to do it.
Ahh, well, that is what I don't have, the money to spend. But I like your thinking. The reason I was thinking softtail is for my back because it will take out some of the jarring as I get older. However, nothing climbs better than a hardtail, of course.
So, maybe that makes sense.
Actually, no, I love my Q Ball. What I am looking for is another 29er in which to race with next year.
One of the things I have been considering is converting the Q Ball to geary and adding squish fork and using that to race. But I have to keep a Single Speed in the stable because I love...
Awesome bike, man!
You should have rode with us on Sunday, it was an ass kicker. We had four 29ers in the group including my own.
Busted my saddle on a stooped manuever and got a replacement while enroute. I'll talk about it more on my blog.
Well, its going to start out in Case, then head down to Mesh and back.
So here is the dealo:
Join CT NEMBA for a 25 to 30 mile epic at Case Mountain in Glastonbury. This will be a 5-hour advanced, no-drop adventure ridden at a fairly intense pace. Please RSVP to me at membership at ctnemba...
