    the gearbox thread

EVRAC- that is awesome! As a true gearbox nerd too I totally appreciate the time, thinking and effort that went into this. As someone who has owned g-boxx2 and Alfine (ZerodeG2) gearboxes I reckon this type of design is the next step. Put me on the waiting list!

Neko's run- bike design rethink due?

I think that people are misreading my comment (or I didn't make myself clear!) I am NOT saying that it is worth riding without a chain! What I am saying is that, in the quest for a better "pedalling" bike (high anti-squat and large chain growth/pedal feedback) have companies compromised on...

Neko's run- bike design rethink due?

I don't mean that we should all run without chains (!) BUT it does ask some fundamental questions on whether we have designed bikes that work better without a chain and the accompanying pedal feedback? Could Neko's Trek be a better bike without a chain and more able to respond to bumps without...

    The Zerode thread

True......but, i hear great reports of di2 on road bikes. I used to think the same as you (mechanical system is preferable to an electronic one) but all these great reports have me intrigued. To me the shifter looks interesting- apparently the system is programmable to give multiple shifts...

    The Zerode thread

I have been speaking to Rob about exactly this subject. The Alfine Di2 shifting motor sticks out a little bit more (see pic) but hopefully it'll still fit. Unfortunately, the motor isn't retro-fitable to the standard Alfine but requires a specific hub. The shifter is pretty cool, as is the...

    I-Track Suspension Prototype Unveiled

Incredibly Cool! I have been following this build for a while now on FB and I have to say major props for getting it built! (and doing all the calculations behind it) Great to see alternative thinking- yes it is a very high pivot but it is all done for a reason. The only reason we are used to...

    Our Prototype Ratcheting CVT

Anyone got any idea what ever came of the IVT gearbox by Derek Lahr? To me it seemed to show a lot of promise. EDIT- just found this; http://scholar.lib.vt.edu/theses/available/etd-11192009-124025/unrestricted/Lahr_DF_T_2009.pdf Hmmm, very interesting!

    Open Source Downhill Project

Ooops, sorry -double post. Whilst I am typing; You've heard of the saying "square peg in a round hole"- what if the connections were like this? What i mean is square connectors that locate into each other with a round hole for an axle through this. The square (or even hexagonal may be...

    Open Source Downhill Project

Right, I have amended the ABC contact points to measure from the new datum point (X co-ords from the BB centre and Y co-ords from the rear axle centre) Would someone please double check these points so we can agree and move on to the next stage? I have also been thinking about what graham888...

    Open Source Downhill Project

Not sure I follow Steve, are you saying that even with the changes to position A we would still need highly robust interfaces? If so, what type of fixings would you recommend? As for the ABC positions- what do most people think? Regarding the Core "area"- I have been thinking about...
