    Headsets, Ovalization, what to do.

Simply JB weld the lower cup in. You won't ever be able to remove it. Just make sure the headset you use has replaceable/serviceable bearings. A steel headset cup is your best bet, cause you don't ever want to have to replace the cup. A PIG works great. I've fixed 2 ovalized headtubes this way...

    Super T questions

Well every 03 Super T that I've seen runs DUAL HSCV. When the 04 came out the spec's stated that the Super T had a single HSCV and one SSVF. This never made sense to me for the exact reason I explained earlier. My guess is, it was either an error in there publication and the 04's never had a...

    Super T questions

Both dampers control stroke. Your SSVF damper limits your maximum shaft velocity i.e high speed hits. And is much more likely to "spike" then an shimmed cartridge. Think hitting a water bar at 40 mph. This is a high speed impact. A drop, even a large one is really only a low speed impact...

    Super T questions

You're correct sir. But I thought that's what I said in my first post, maybe not as concisely. Thanks for clarifying.

    Super T questions

Sorry, but that is incorrect. The 04 has a single HSCV cartridge and only a spring and spacers in the other leg. Marzocchi own spec's state SSVF in one leg. But I've had 2 apart and there is nothing in there but a spring and spacers. If you actually think about it, it would be pretty stupid...

My New (to me) Rotec RL9

Actually, that was the main problem I was having with mine. What happens is the derailleur does NOT always carry the chain all the way down to the cog you shifted to (i.e. you shifted to the smallest cog, but the chain only got carried down to the 2nd or 3rd smallest). Then what happens...

    Super T questions

I'd keep the 04. Has a single HSCV cartridge (i.e. shimmed damping). Not sure whats in the 07's but I believe it is just "ported" damping. The 03's where the last good year for the Super T. They had dual HSCV damping. But most people probably couldn't tell the difference between them and an 04...

    MSC#3 Angel Fire

Watching the helmet cam vid on Littermag. It looks like the pros pretty much got the course from last year. Since the best stuff was on that course. What did Cat1-3 get to ride? And why has the PRO course suddenly become to "gnarly" for the AM's? Or was the amateur course just as fun...

My New (to me) Rotec RL9

I usually go by the size of the gusset at the seattube. Looking at yours, it looks smaller then a large, but on second look, it looks larger then a medium. So I'm really not sure. I had an 07, not sure if the 06 where different or not. If your effective toptube is over 25", then its a large...

That's a medium, not a large. Hows the shifting?

Now see. I never mentioned Tunnel. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you really had some scary stuff you were riding up there in SB. You SB guys are always holding up Tunnel as the pinnacle of gnar. Yeah, it's a brutal. jackhammer ride. I regard most of it as unpleasant...

    MSC#3 Angel Fire

First off, I'm not gonna argue that more practice wouldn't be nice. But it is what it is and really no different than last year or the year before that. No way to do an all day anyway, at least for the amateurs. Cat 1 gets the course to themselves. Cat 2 and 3 have to share. So at best you're...

    MSC#3 Angel Fire

LOL. Truer words, never spoken. I did Angel Fire for the first time in 2006. Fresh out from California, where I "thought" we had some gnarly trails. Boy was I surprised. I couldn't believe people actually rode the kinda stuff at AF, let alone raced down it. By race day I had not made it down...

Agreed. Unless you catch him at the wrong time. It's pretty hard to get Craig off the fricken phone. That guy will talk suspension till you bleed.

    MSC#3 Angel Fire

MOTHER OF GOD!!! Did you guys even read the schedule? Friday 2 hours practice Saturday: 2.5 hours for cat 2&3. 3 Hours for Cat 1 and Pro (not sure why cat1 and pro get and extra half hour, might be a typo) Sunday: 2.5 hours practice Monday: 2 hours practice, but cat 1,2,3 have to share the...

40lb post! DH/FR Rigs around the 40lb mark! tips, pics, specs

I take exception with it being the best. LOL, just kidding. That black one is truly bada$$. Like you, I miss mine also. Even with the quirky shifting. Considering buying another.

    DW owed a million bucks!

$45 to $60 seems plausible (although, that still seems a little high). My info was based on data from around 2003. So I guess quadrupling is certainly possible in that time frame. Might explain why so many builders are dropping it for other alternatives. That and the fact that consumers are...

    DW owed a million bucks!

Nicolai use to show the cost that they paid for the FSR patent in the cost breakdown on their custom frames. It was around 15 euros. Can't remember what the exchange rate was back then. It probably worked out to somewhere between $10- $20 U.S. My guess is, there are probably some up front fees...

    DW owed a million bucks!

Man, talk about pulling a number out of thin air. A manufacturer would have to be nuts to pay that kind of money per bike, just so they could have a Horst link. It was more like $5-$15 per bike. Although a manufacturing insider would have to confirm that number, I guarantee its much closer to...
