Not sure if this helps, but I'm about 5'10" and I have had two medium knolly's, a 26" endorphin and now a warden. I've read comments from Noel on the mtbr knolly forum that he tries to make sizing consistent through different frames, ie if you fit a medium warden, you'll be a medium podium too.
If I lived in Northern VA I'd have a fast and light FS 29er with 120 mm or less... Dress tires appropriately for trips to Harrisonburg or Frederick...be happy.
I have no kids, live in a place with local DH runs, and I still have only ridden my DH bike once this year. Unless I lived at a park...
Brand new, never mounted 27.5" stans flow EX wheelset. Front wheel is 15mm, rear is 12x142. Rear hub has the 11 speed cassette mount. 400 shipped in the lower 48.
After watching all these sick videos of Neko and Brendan ripping, I've decided I have to buy a scott. Luckily, I found a great deal on a "like new" Scott DH bike on my local Craigslist!
It sucks, because I like my bike, but I feel the pressure to get a new one if I want to unload it while it has any so-called "value". No carbon, no big wheels, no care as far as everyone is concerned.
They should work fine unless you are getting really crazy. I have them on my trail bike and it's seen some heavy riding, lift riding, lots of rocks and they've stayed true for a year with just a few little dents. 26 inchers on torches, and I also haven't had the spoke tension issues that some...
I have a Knolly Endorphin (26, 140mm, dbair), I didn't really know a ton about the brand, I just got a smokin' deal on a used one built up real nice. I don't really notice pedalling issues moreso than other similar bikes, but I'm not the most in tune with the finer nuances of different...

I wouldn't recommend "building FR/DH stuff after work" in the national forest, but the riding there is supposed to be phenomenal.
Wisp ranks well behind Beech. They have some cool rocky terrain but its a slow lift and a flat hill. I've never been to Seven Springs but I don't think it's a huge park either. I think it would be worth the driving to skip Wisp and Seven Springs and head to Mountain Creek.
Hickory Mountain Loop, best accessed from Guion farm parking lot. I suggest riding it clockwise then reversing, then riding down ridgeline and climbing up Jim Branch back to your car. It's open and I'd even give you a personal tour! Hope you get to check it out soon.
This place is definitely worth a visit and a helping hand. I'm only a little bit biased given that it's 5 mins from my house.
I should be able to make it out again.
Irie. 3 yrs old. She's one badass mutt.
When she's in shape, she can do 25+ miles in cool weather. She's a little off that right now so we're sticking to 1-2 hr rides.
Motomike crashes out in a grass corner at the top...devastated, he is forced to cut the rock garden and sprint down the ski slope to the step up to maintain appearances.
Hunter Budd sleeps through his start time while taking a pre-race siesta in Lot 3.
Matt Fitzgerald and Will O'brien DQ'd...
The course looks amazing to me! Now cue the e-riders to tell me how it's too easy or too "bikepark". I love the mix of woods stuff and high speed, and the jumps look super floaty and fun from that helmet cam. It's pretty rare for me to sit through a whole helmet cam run but that was pretty...

Check out this injury report from Mark Stierwalt, who picked up a little "splinter" between his toes during stage 1 of last weekend's enduro. It's a pretty funny account of it all, with iphone...
Fellow professional trailbuilder Pete Costain of Terraflow Trails has been kicking ass up there! I met him at a conference earlier this year and have been following his progress up at whitefish for awhile now. The trails look like a blast, I hope I'll get to make a trip up there sometime.
Maybe rocky knob or moore's springs trails. Both would have useable routes and have nice proximity to wilkes for a series. Plus I think they would give you permits. UNF is a good option as well, like Rob said. What about Pandapas pond in Blacksburg, VA? They have had collegiate super D's...
