I know some big guys that ride big stuff, 20 footers, and they are fine. but they are also smooth and seasoned riders.
I think a person that is a hack will break more stuff than a smooth rider regardless of size/ weight.
If you don't 50/50 every jump you will be fine.
Been saying it for a while but this will most likely be my last year. Digging used to be half the fun but I have been having some problems with my wrist/hands and I have some tendonitis in my right elbow (I am a tile contractor so my **** is worn out from 26 years of troweling) that will not go...
Yeah thats a good area. The long side of my area is about 400' but part of that is rollers to build speed to get into the track. The other roll in has a small step down to build speed.
I gotta get my ass motivated, haven't been on trails since last year, haven't done much at my house.
This is my pump track at the end of last season, it really does get boring hitting the same 5 jumps or whatevs. Need more jumps but getting to old and sore to maintain them hahaha. . .
Yeah, I am in Downingtown. Just so you know heading up 100 to pottstown gets really bad traffic after 4:30/5:00, it can take an hour+ but 4:00 it will take 20 25 minutes. Sometimes thats what keeps me from headin up.
I use specialized rhythm tires at trilogy. They soiltac the straights and pave the berms, it is smooth and fast. I wanna say I was running 34/14 on my 24 but I might not be remembering right. I know I would spin out in all the berms but if I went to a taller gear I couldn't get off the gate...
Think of a 6 or 7 foot tall vert 180 berm, then plow half of it, thats the lip. It will look like a shark fin from the side. then build a landing.
Go to this page and look at the first jump. . . http://bmx.transworld.net/1000115587/features/accelerates-heroes-of-dirt-results-photos/?pid=45464
I never even notice my helmet when I am riding. I am usually "in the moment". If I am hot when I am done a run I take my helmet off so its really no big deal.
Now if you could find a way to make it smell a little better. . . ;)
I have done a lot of concrete, well since it kinda part of my job. The first berm that I finished in concrete cracked apart, mainly because of the mix I tried. The second time I used a more traditional 3/2/1 mix, 3 parts silt/sandy soil, 2 parts portland cement and 1 part lime about 1" to 2"...
It is actually either a 180, 360 or 540 berm depending on where you come in and where you leave.
You have to ride it 540 from one line to slow you down or you will land flat from the next dub or ride it 180 and drag brakes.
Its overall a lot smaller than my trails used to be but once its...
Don, I was hurtin from diggin/riding. my legs were so sore I couldn't even jump the last step up.
The line is almost done being roughed in, still need a lot of clean up work and drainage dialed in but next season it should get epic.
Just some gopro of my pumptrack. its a work in progress and very getto right now. I had completely plowed my jumps in april and started over. I have to work on the last couple jumps for better speed so we will not have to pedal so hard on the hill, right now its a leg breaker but doable. About a...
Mutt, that was/is my deal. But after 6 years the digging is like 20% of the fun now and part of that is probably because my younger friends are moving away/growing up and my older friends are getting divorces and growing up so I am basicaly solo down here.
Like offcamber said, its not a sob...
Don, something came over me this weekend and I plowed a lot of sh!t. Even the concrete berm got plowed.
I have some crazy ideas. I will keep you posted and if things go as planned you will definately want to come out this summer.
