I bought new boots last year up at Mt. Snow at Mount Snow Boot Works. The guys there know their stuff and you can get free adjustments any time after that. First place I have ever been where they tested the flexability of my ankles to fit the boot.
Like SS said find a boot with heat moldable...

Basically you tension a spring in the front and rear to hold your boot in the binding. The more tension the harder to release. So if the spring is under constant tension, over time would the spring not be as tense at the same setting year over year?

When I bought mine many years ago I went to the diamond building in Boston on Washington St. Didn't really have a clue what I was doing, but all the jewelers in there were very helpful explaining things. Plenty of jewelers to comparision shop with as well.
