Vague ... you could say it that way as well. I've run that tire both ways on purpose for comparison reasons. It grips very well in either case, but the tire's "voice" is heard a bit later when run backwards. On dry loose over hardpack terrain, the sensation of the tire's initial slipping is more...
Fair enough, but maybe just semantics - significant and insignificant in our statements are the extremes. A single degree HA change is somewhere in between, it won't make the bike unrideable. Going for example from 64 to 63 won't be as drastic as going from 64 to 59.
Trail (mechanical) will increase by less than 6mm if you go from a 26 to a 27 rim and use the "same" tire. And since this is the Downhill forum, in steering feel that is roughly equivalent to slackening the head angle by 1 degree or raising the crowns by 20-25mm. It can be felt by some of the...
It's not that hard to try it - just put it backwards on a trail that braking is not that critical. I've done this with a slightly worn MM in the spring. It's not a huge difference until you start to push it. On the limits of traction the tire let's go a bit later and rapid changes of direction...
In theory the spring rate is inversly proportional to the number of active coils. So if you halve the number of active coils, you'll double the spring rate.
The relationship between Total, Up, and Back sweep is:
cos(T) = cos(U).cos(B)
So a bar with 9 degrees total sweep, rotated to give 5 deg upsweep will provide 7.5 deg of back sweep.
This reminds me of a conversation I had last year with the head engineer at Formula. Discussing brakes of course, he was surprised at Sram's decision to use magnesium for Codes. He mentioned that they were having problems in the past with B4 SL mag brakes forming micro-bubbles because of the...
On steeper tracks I have experienced lack of power with Saints and Juicys I have ridden. I'm with weak hands and was used to Gustavs in the past. This past season I rode Oros and they were powerful enough for me, even in Champery, and The One with 180mm rotor was more powerful than Oro with 200...
I remember that discussion and just re-read it, but the symptoms with mine seemed a bit different when that was happening. After leaving the fork for a while, it was fine afterwards. This led me to think that it wasn't a stuck plate, since Udi's needed intervention. The cause might be the same...
Udi, have you ever had inconsistent damping with running a lot LSC? I had problems with the oil staying up in the damper and not draining fast enough on rebound - that's with 1 or 2 clicks from fully closed. This left me with no damping initially and then a harsh transition back to damping...
I have ridden the new formulas and was really impressed. In my experience The One with 180mm disc is more powerful than Oro with 200mm. Out of the two new formula models, I found The One to be more powerful than Mega.
The One w/180mm disc is more powerful AND lighter than Puro w/200mm disc. Amazing brakes, and with a number of different linkages for the lever you can have a on/off brake (for Matti and Cedric), a very progressive one (for Greg and Nico), or something in-between.
"On 7th August Eurosport 2 will send a report at 6.30 pm (CET, that is 16:30 GMT) about the World Cup Event in Schladming. This is the first time that a report about the Nissan UCI Mountainbike World Cup will be broadcast in Europe."
What determines handling in a bar-stem combo is hands/grips position relative to the fork steer tube (look at your bar-stem combo as a whole thing). So bar tilt (along with back- and up-sweep) will be another variable to the handling characteristics. As an example, a 30mm stem with bars tilted...
What is your weight and spring rate? Does that redline mixture provide you with light enough compression and rebound damping? Right now I'm using motul shock oil, which is 16.1 cst@40C and redline's like water is 5.5 cst@40C. I'm still playing with removing some shims and swapping others. From...
I tried a Roco on my Sunday and the stock valving provides too much damping for both compression and rebound. You will have to change most of the shims if you want it tuned properly. I cannot source some of the shims needed and for now I'm just experimenting with removing some of them in order...
