Thanks for the advice. I think I'll send it back and see what they make of it - I presume they have no interest in sending back an unsafe frame. I'll let you know how I get on and try and stay on their good side.

Frame is 2 years old. I got it from comobike.com who are at present uncontactable through their website. I'm not sure if it is but even if it is not , it does seem like it shouldn't happen and it wasn't my fault.
