There are tons of tools where the Harbor freight version is perfectly fine. I recommend dropping some coin on a table saw, sliding compound miter saw and a sander. Also invest in good blades. It may not be what you want to hear but it is good advice.

I'd add two things. Download the free version of SketchUp and watch the tutorials to learn how to use it. I draw everything before building it and will save time and money from mistakes. Also, if you want a smooth finish...

Since it turned into a Issaquah/Bellingham debate, I've spent time in both. Both are nice. Bellingham has more of a small town/college town feel while Issaquah feels more like a bedroom community. I'd take Bham personally.
