    single speed

Nope. Your derailleur will work just fine. The singleator is a little lighter, and looks cleaner, and gives you the option to push the chain up instead of down, but it's more of a want than a need. If you want to spend extra cash, I say go for it.

    bashguard

I agree with the majority. The Blackspire is my favorite smooth bashring. I like it a lot more than the Race Face, TruVativ, and Kooka (although I think all three of those are lighter). If you want something with teeth, the Gravity Check is my favorite, and the Threshold is a distant second. I...

    Single Speeds!!!!!

I don't have a photo right now because my server is down (ask me how happy I am about that). Right now I've got my Bridgestone XO-1 set up as a SS. I'm using a set of Mavic hubs with a 16T freewheel and a 38T chainring. I hope to do a cross race or two this fall. We'll see. It's not super light...

Time pedals hard as a mofo to take out.

Yeah, all of the Aliums that we have in stock will accept a regular pedal wrench, but not the regular ATAC and ATAC Carbon, etc. They (at least the ones that we have) will only take an allen wrench.

Time pedals hard as a mofo to take out.

Yeah, they are a pain in the butt. That was one of the reasons I was hesitant to make the switch. But I just got my first set and I really like them (except for the installation/removal). As far as tips go, uh, I don't know what to tell you. I guess the best thing is to get a really long...

Anybody using front disk with V rear??

I agree with Merwin5_10. A disc up front is going to give you a lot more power than in the back. Something like 80% of your stopping power comes from the front brake (I don't remember where I got that number, I could be way off). If money is an issue, I'd go with a disc up front and keep the...

    New Bike

I just built up a new bike. I couldn't wait for the Ellsworth, so I went with an Intense (I'll save the Ellsworth for the spring). It's just the Tracer, so 4" of travel. I put on the Duke SL and XT everything, including discs. It's really sweet. I'm very impressed with the XT stuff and the Duke...

    Sweetest Dual Suspension Frame?

I've been looking at the Intenses for the last few years, but now I'm on the Ellsworth bandwagon. We built up a Truth in my size yesterday and it rides really nice. I just need to decide between the Truth and the ID - even more travel!

For hubs, Surly are great. Spot, Phil Wood, Chris King, and others also make fine hubs, but they are a little more expensive. A sweet SS fork for disc users would be the Vicious Cycles fork. It looks great and I've only heard great things about it. A 2:1 gear ratio is a good place to start.

    Hydraulic brake lines

Disc brakes are pretty simple to work on once you understand how it all works. We've been building a lot of bikes with disc in the last few months and they are all pretty easy. I'm not quite sure if I'm going to go with the XT or the Louise on my new bike. We'll see.

    Cane Creek Thudbuster!!

I haven't used the Thudbuster, but we've sold quite a few and have had good feedback. I have tried the Rockshox, and if the Thudbuster is anything like that, I say go for it. The addition of that post made my back feel better and made riding more enjoyable. My climbing also improved. I liked...
