    2011 Demo Questions

Bump, same question as above. http://www.raceface.com/components/bottom-brackets/bottom-brackets/pfbb30-x-type-adapter/

    New GT prototype spotted

Gee and Dan were both riding those frames on the Llangynog quarry jumps a few weeks ago. I was riding the Revolution uplift next to the quarry and watching them made a good lunch time break. In real life the jumps look twice as big as the video, you could fit my house in the last but one...

whats coming up from TLD Thread

https://www.troyleedesigns.com/products/3553-01 "Front shuttle pocket for cell phone or keys. Front D-ring for east access and storage of bike park lift pass" Boom. Although not sure what east access is. I agree though, car thieves should be checking for keys under wheel arches of...

    Knee/shin guards

I have the moabs, I'm super skinny and none of the knee only neoprene type things stay on me in a crash; previously the only pad I've had that stay put was Dainese bibs which are a bit hot for pushing up in the local woods. The Moabs work really well, although if you run them with shorts they...

Totally clutch, or why I give a **** about 10 speed now

I put the 10 speed X9 clutch derailleur on my 2011 Demo 8. It works well apart from requiring higher pressure than before to change to a bigger gear. A friend asked me if I'd bought a new cassette and shifter and said no as it was already 10 speed. He counted them and said nope only 9...

Iron Horse Sunday size (THAT thread again!), for a beginner 5'7" girl?

Can't believe this took 2 pages. I weigh 140lbs, am not much faster than a beginner and and a 275 was too soft, 300 spot on. It is a bit shock dependant though. John

    No More Bent Downtubes!!!

Cheers SuspectDevice, from your clear post I read that bending a downtube to be near perpendicular to the headtube means you can fit a bigger diameter downtube on a set headtube length without complicated mitres with the top tube. So dragontalesdh was right, a bent downtube can give more...

    No More Bent Downtubes!!!

Lol, that's what I said. I know someone who is a physicist and hence is even more right, so I can ask him if it helps.

    No More Bent Downtubes!!!

Actually how about this for a reason for curved downtubes, the smaller contact area of the bent tube allows for a shorter headtube that fits in better with long travel bikes, see the picture of the fsr above? John

    No More Bent Downtubes!!!

Hello, I'm an engineer with about ten years experience in various industries, I've been a stress guy for about 5 years, mainly FEA and the odd hand calc. The bent tube is longer than the straight tube so assuming the same material and tube profile, the longer tube will always be less stiff...

    Custom 7spd pg970 cassette - worthwhile?

Lol. I might see if I use the 26t and then go to a 11-23t 6 speed (pretty sure the 26t was dialled out on my old cassette because I once had a very expensive mech in the spokes incident) but still can't see it making sub 200g. Are the smaller Dura ace sprockets made from ti?

    Custom 7spd pg970 cassette - worthwhile?

Having seen some similar threads on here I decided for my new bike I'd go down the cut down cassette route. So I bought a PG970 11-34 for £20 off CRC, didn't seem worth spending more as I would cut off the alloy carrier hung sprockets anyway. Then I weighed it, 449grams, bit chunky!!! I...

    Best gusset design?

You beat my edit - so a quick backtrack from me! I don't believe that HAZs are important when looking at materials that are not heat treated as the properties stay the same. I certainly don't ever use it when looking at normal steel like S355. We don't use any fancy steels in my industry and...

    Best gusset design?

I don't think it would as soldering is like gluing so does not effect the fatigue classification. Unless the heat in soldering changes the material properties in some way. I haven't ever done analysis of soldering so this is a guess.

    Best gusset design?

Hmm, how to tactfully disagree with people on the internet...;) The purpose of the pointy bit on the gussets is to prevent stress hot spots. As the material tapers away to a thin point gradually it means the change in stiffness is gradual and the load is distributed over a large area. Think...

    2011 Demo Questions

:thumb: Thanks guys, medium it is then. I thought reach should be consistent across all frames, still don't understand how I can fit a 430mm reach demo 8 and a 390mm TR450/session . Still guess if it fits it doesn't matter about the numbers. John

    Best gusset design?

Hello, Without access to calculation or testing I would try and think of the gusset design like this. Its purpose is to avoid stress concentrations by making the rate of change of stiffness gradual across the load path and to reduce the peak stress at the weld (welds will propergate cracks...

    2011 Demo Questions

I'm also interested in this as there is nowhere local with a bike to sit on but I have an order in for a medium frame. Medium Session 88/TR450s are both 391mm reach. I'm 5' 10" and sessions/tr450s I've sat on felt a touch small so am thinking I should change my order to a small Demo...
