I have both, and can say the 07 and up X9's are much better than the X7's. X9's took a big leap forward last year and are much closer to the X0's. If you can afford it, I highly suggest for the feel and precision of the shifts. The X9's can be had for like $69 if you look around.
Hi Nick,
I'm Johnny Chen's bud Blake. We met up at PA a couple of times. Anyway, I remember that you polished your DHR and I just purchased a Raw Highline and was interested in polishing it too. Any suggestions on how to get started? Thanks for the input.
Another vote for the Highline. I'm going to sell my Demo 7 to get a Highline even though I love my Demo...Rails really well and is very versatile. You can build them fairly lightish for a burly bike too.
Good call on the 7. I love mine...makes missing the D9 that much easier. Much more flickable, and it rails. It's nice being able to run a 1.5 SC fork too. One thing that I did notice is that it actually feels a lot more steep than the D9. Not in a bad way because it is still slack for DHing, but...
I was there for the last one. They had the 08 Demo 7 and SXT on hand. I hit the trail with those and the Enduro SL, nice bike but I would stick with the SXT for a trail bike. Mostly XC single track in the area, but you can make it fun if you hit some of the routes on the Finn Hill side.
I can't speak from personal experience having ridden only the Fox and Manipoo stuff, but my bro has been on both the DHX and the Roco and swears by the new RS Vivids in comparison.
As others have mentioned, I don't know if it will be an upgrade in terms of overall performance but I love my Codes. You will lose some weight, adaptors will be hella cheap compared to the Gustavs and pads will also be pretty reasonable in comparison. Tough choice, but I think you can't go wrong...
You can find some really sweet deals on Totems these days. For me, I prefer the stiffness of the 40MM over the wimpy 32 noodles on the WC. You still get excellent dampening too, so the only negative is the 1 inch of travel.
