Holy flashbacks! I haven't posted to RM in 5 years, but was amazed to find that the OG gang is still here. I think I will try to hang out a bit more myself.
I randomly stumbled on this post looking to read what riders are thinking of the prospect of 29er DH bikes. Personally I don't think...
I need a 2004 - 2005 888 top crown. I've checked the forsale section and Ebay, but couldn't find one. I'm doing a project bike for my 4yr old son. I'm converting a Shiver SC to a dual crown for a 16" front wheel. I have lower 888 crown, but need an upper. It needs to be the older 2004-2005...
Giant doesn't need to make a carbon DH bike. My 2011 medium frame with steel spring weighed 9.5 lbs and is plenty stiff. Is it worth spending a$1000 more when the bike is already as light as anything out there?
I like Torco a lot better and have had good luck with Maxima. We used to use Silkolene, but had stiction issues. Something that probably wouldn't be noticed on a heavy Motocross bike, but was obvious on a Mountain Bike.
Two things:
1. Yes the higher CST oil will affect the feel of the fork on small bumps or high speed chatter.
2. The last time I used Silkolene oil in a Marzocchi the fork did not like it. It felt very sticky. I think the seal swellers in the Silkolene negatively affect the Marzocchi bushings.
Which Elka tune do you have? The 2nd half of the DW DHR is very progressive. I don't think you will need much HS compression unless you have a low tune shock. Then I would lust tune LS compression for the pedaling prerformance you like.
Personally I thought last year Specialized would be showing up at the WC DH races with a 650B front wheel. They are very well positioned to make whatever tire they want in whatever size.
I've also been really impressed with the Vector HLR. I ran one on my Turner DW DHR most of this year. It was my favorite shock on that bike out of many. I'm looking forward to trying the air version real soon.
Uhhh... I can't believe no one has mentioned Park City, UT. There's only 300 miles of marked and maintained true single track right out your front door. No driving necessary. There's some OK DHing at Deer Valley (5 - 15 min from PC), and the Canyons is building a true lift accessed terrain...
Bummer to hear about the casings not being up to the task. I have a pair of Kaisers and Der Barons waiting to be tested, but we are finding them difficult to set up tubeless. I'm a long time fan of the 2.5 Minion DHF 3C and 2.5 Highroller 3C combo. I run them tubeless and typically run them...
The lubricating oil from the lowers has worked its way above the solo air valve and is preventing the negative from charging. Remove the air cap, dump out any oil from air leg, reinstall cap and air pressure. Should fix it.
How old is your 40? After about 3 seasons the bushings are done and new seals won't fix the leaking. Is there any scoring on the stantions yet? If not it would be worth getting new lowers (we sell them for $269). If the legs are damaged its a better value to buy a complete new fork. We have...
DHF Minion 2.5 front and a High Roller rear. That's my favorite combo for varying conditions. The DHF is much more predictable in the gravel over hard pack. When things get really nasty I go to a Muddy Mary 2.5 front and High Roller rear.
Notes:
1. I have yet to try the HR 2 which is...
Bummer. Cedric brings more fun to racing than anyone else on the circuit. He will be missed the rest of the season.
Note: LCA is re-ordered to ACL in english. He should be back at full strength in time to train for next season if he puts the work in.
