First day on the new box link and its creaking again.. it was a muddy day in the bike park and cleaning, reapplying anti-seize doesn't solve it? Funny thing is if I back of the shock bolt a bit and compress the suspension the creak stops... put some anti-seize on the bolt and retighten to...
Mine have been bombproof... they have survived a buddy and his dog falling out of my truck right onto the front wheel (minor true), and me backing into another vehicle with my M9 on my bike rack (minor true)... have stayed dead straight from all my hack riding... I did have to replace one...
Just installed the new lower box link today and anti-seized the flip chips... I did notice much tighter tolerances between the new box link and the flip chips than on my old box link.. hoping this solves the creaking issues.
I fabricated a cover for the shock area to keep the mud out, but you think for the price of the frame that Intense could include a built in guard to keep out the dirt, ala the Devinci Wilson. Even keeping it semi-clean wasn't a great solution, but its a start.
The simple fact is that no alterations to the flip chip assembly of any kind should be required, right? Dunbar is a race team and their bikes probably get abused a bit more than average, so they came up with something that worked for them. Teflon tape and anti-seize do NOT work on my box...
I talked to Dunbar Cycles in Vancouver yesterday and they are sponsored by Intense and all ride M9s... their mechanic custom fabricates plastic shims to take up space in the flip-chip assembly... they wear out and then they replace them. They haven't been able to find a long term solution for...
The flip chips are the Achilles heel of the M9.... I hate them... creaking always returns after a few days and have tried anti-seize and teflon tape. I do have the first gen box link so maybe that is part of the issue. A buddy of mine is selling me his bling kit at the end of this season, so...
Well, I don't think aerodynamics are the main goal of the Jackknife.... its a good design.. no frame contact and it will hold 4 DH bikes... I know the engineer who designed the rack and it is based on the short lived Arbutus rack design. I have one on order and they should be available in...
I have used both and would recommend the Blackspire guide over the Straitline... better lower guide design IMO. It is quieter, smoother and supposedly won't wear out like the Straitline lower guide.
