That's silly. What wildlife needs protecting at night, but doesn't during the day?

If anything, it should be the other way around - closed to protect bike riders from wildlife. A few encounters with groups of coyotes and bears has proven this for me.

No coyotes or bears here, but the deer tend to be (unnaturally) dusk, dawn and night active because of disturbances by humans during the day.

Yeah - pretty much everything around here is most active dusk -> dawn. Our county open space trails close an hour after sunset and open an hour before sunrise to give the mt lions and bears a break.
