Anyone got a 20" giant reign? I'm after one, but not sure if it'll be too big for me, I'm 6'2. The 18" looks a little on the small side, but I've not actually seen a 20" to compare it with.

Ideally, could someone post a pic of it?

Cheers!

Ah, a question I am more than able to answer. I'm 6'2" and pretty familiar with the Giant stuff. I have a 20" Reign, 20" Trance, and a 20" Anthem. Not to mention hardtails.
Anyway, the 20" Reign is GINORMOUS. I've ridden it once, loved the feel, but goddamn it's huge. I had more seatpost showing on my TCR road bike than I did on the Reign. It's been sitting around my place for almost a year now, I think I'm finally going to get off of my ass and get an 18" front end for it.
Whoever decided that sticking a 20" seat tube on a 6" travel bike was a good idea should be forced to ride that bike, and nothing else. I shudder when I remember they make a 21" too.
I'd say try it out, but it's a freaking skyscraper, I think you'll be happier on the 18", but everyone is different...

I ride a 70mm stem on a 20" Reign and really dig it. I rolled it DH and the seat dropped plenty low. The cockpit is perfect for me and I am 5'11".

definately want that, you don't want to be too big on it..if anything go to your lbs and sit on a 20" Giant, then take a test ride

Cheers James - do you have a picture of the bike, so I can see what you mean?
No, sorry, it's currently sitting, half-stripped, in the back of the pile. Just fork/wheels/stem on it. I've slowly robbed it of the parts (and it's dignity) over the last couple of months. Don't plan on rebuilding it until I get the 18" front end...

so talk to the owner like a human being..just be like, "hey man, i want a reign but I am not sure what size. I don't want it to be too small, but I don't want it to be too big. Do you have a sizing station or a 20" Giant frame I could sit on and try out? If not think you'd be able to order one and hopefully it'll fit me? If it does fit me I'll give you a down payment. Think you'd be able to do that for me?"

something like that and I betcha they'll do it..can't talk to people as if they are retarded, talk to them like people and they'll help you out.

It's actually quite a bit different than the other 20"/Large Giants. I have an Anthem, Trance, Reign, XTC Composite, XTC Hybrid, and used to have TCRs, and had always assuming that I rode the Giant L/20" frame. The Reign just fits different to me. Huge. But again, that's me, might not be everybody. I'd just recommend that he try a Reign, not any 20" Giant.

yep, I'm in england.... there's hardly any of the bikes near here, the only giant dealer nearby only stocks the cheap models and can order the bike in as a purchase (so if I'm going to do that, I might as well buy it mail order and save a load of cash).

I have a 20" Reign. I'm 6' and find it a little on the long side , but after a test ride on an 18" , I decided I'd rather shorten the cockpit of the 20" than have to try and stretch out an 18". At 6'2" , I think you'll find an 18" is too short for your height , but its a very personal thing.

I think it comes down to what sort of riding you have planned too. I chose a roomy cockpit because I use the bike for endurance races and long days in the saddle. Although it's less manouverable for light DH and jumping , (which I use it for too) I think I made the right decision. I have also fitted a 70mm stem and moved the saddle forward in the rails. My 20" came with a set back seat post , so fitting a straight post would shorten it a little more.

Also check out the Giant forums at MTBR , a lot of people are asking the same question as you. The opinions there might help you make a decision.

Hope this helps:)

Cheers for all the advice - in the end, I had a go on an 18" reign and while the height was good, the toptube was a bit short.....

Ended up buying a Kona coiler instead.
