Well it was a muddy mess for sure. Juniors Experts and Pros combined go last at Canada Cup races. The racers with the most UCI points go after all the other pros. With over 100 riders in the class it took about an 1:45 to get them all down. The first third of the field had a firm tacky track, then it started pouring for a few minutes turning the track into a peanut butter like muck for about 20 minutes before another deluge hit. The course changed dramatically and all the top racers had a real challenge just to make it down the course. Except for Mitch Delfs and Sam Hill even in those impossible conditions they crushed the balance of the field, Mitch taking second by 5 seconds and Sam beating him by another 10.
The Canadians do know how to put on great events and it sure was fun watching riders negotiating the course.It was on last seasons WC course except for the big drop up top and the wood bridge/stepdown over the xc course. All the soil on the steep section under the lift washed away exposing nasty rocks and holes that should make next months WC race very fun to watch.
