Recently bought a bike with LX 9 speed package. I want to convert the bike to 8 speed. I have a set of XT 8 speed shifters and 8 speed XTR cassette.

Is this all I need?. Can I use the 9 speed LX rear Derailleur until it dies?.

Thanks

Yes on the rear deraileur, get an 8 spd chain and front D.

The front chainrings...well you'll just have to see, sometimes the spacing messes things up...
good luck

the nine speed lx rear derailluer will work with and eight speed setup. I would reccomend that you use a nine speed sram chain with this setup though. This is because the nine speed sram chains are not as narrow as those made by shimano. This way you can still use your front derailluer and crankset withan eight speed setup. I have been running a setup close to this for the past year and have yet to have any problems.
