RICHMOND, Calif. -- A man was being treated for gunshot wounds in his legs and his blue Prius riddled with bullet holes early Monday after a terrifying shooting on Highway 80 near the 580 merge, authorities said.
Family members told KTVU that Anderson Silva was driving home on the freeway at 4:30 a.m. from his job as a newspaper deliveryman. He drove up next to a white car, Silvas sister Flavia Mello said, made eye contact with the driver and then felt pains in his legs.
Silva managed to drive to his nearby Richmond home and called for medical assistance.
He got shot in the legs, but manage to drive to his home, Mello said.
Silva was rushed to John Muir Medical Center where he remained early Monday with a bullet lodged in his thigh.
The interchange between eastbound Interstate Highway 80 and Interstate Highway 580 between Richmond and Albany was shut down for a time as Richmond police searched for shell casings and any other evidence they could find.
Mello said her brother described the shooter as wearing a red cap and driving a white car. Police have not released any other details.
