btw this will be my first road bike, im 5'10 and 165 pounds. what size should i get?

any info will be great,

Sounds good man. I am close 5'10" 159lbs, but I am long legs, short torso. I run a 56cm Trek 5200 with 280mm of seatpost exposed. The TCR line is a great place to start indeed. If you are just training on it. Concentrate on fitting it to you. Get some bars, and a seat you like, a stem in the correct length if you feel you need it. The rest is overkill unless you are racing, or like to waste money. The 56cm I ride is just a starting point. Test ride a 56cm, and see how it feels and go from there. Don't buy anything without trying it. Road bike fit is very important. I've ridden 58cm 60cm, and 54cm. I like 56cm the best on everything I have ridden so far. I rode a 54cm Orbea for 2hrs one day, and it wasn't bad just a little cramped. The big bikes the bars wouldn't go low enough for me. I like it low, and aero, but again not necessary unless you are racing. Do what feels right, and enjoy it. Welcome to road cycling, and I hope you enjoy the ride!

Will the shop give you a discount -and- help you buy and fit the right bike?

Giant makes good stuff. I doubt -- considering discount -- that you could find a much better value out there... maybe someone desperate on ebay or MMcG? ;)

I'm 5'-10", 160 lbs and I ride a 56cm Scott CR1....I'm pretty normal proportions. I'm no help beyond that :)

<edit> LO....don't you have a job? Or a wife? You are on here all day :)

I LOVE the Giant TCR frames, the carbons ride so well. Yes, I've ridden better frames, but for the price, they're really hard to beat.
Light, stiff, responsive, everything you need in a road bike...

First rule of hookups is you don't talk about pricing.
:)

Congrats though! I think you'll really enjoy it, great frame...

I was more concerned with what the company making the bike would think.
I certainly wouldn't want anyone talking about any pricing on stuff they got from us.
