So UPS dropped off the package at my house while I was at work. I just called them to see what was up, how ironic. ;)

Well the Lakers are winning, and I'll have a bike for the weekend.

I have a headset question though. I'm torn on weather to get a new Chris King or a FSA pig pro for it though.

fsa pig pro deep steel, just watch the stack height, and have a BFH + 6pk ready for the install.

its exactly how a dh headset should be IMHO

A big freakin hammer?! are you nuts?:D The six pack sounds like agood idea though :) Newcastle maybe ;)

I'll press it in at the shop tomorrow. The shop has a black king in stock, and I believe they have a pig pro. Are there two types and one is a deep insertion?

This shop wouldn't happen to be Bob's, would it? Cuz if it is, we definitely have a black King in stock, and I'm almost 100% sure we have the FSA too. Hell, I might even see you there (assuming it's the Goleta store; I gotta stop by there tomorrow). I'd get a King though. It's just the whole "I-spent-more-money-on-my-headset-than-you-did" factor.

It would be Bob's:D I'll be by to press the headset in when I get off work at 5pm.

James, how are the Race face headsets? I know nothing about them. Cartridge I assume, how deep are the cups? Steel? I'll talk to you tomorrow about this bro

Glad to see it back in action! Just gotta tear those stickers off now :)

I have both, King and FSA. After getting the spacer thing figured out on my PIG DH pro, I think it's more than fine for the DH riding. I got mine on Ebay for $42 shipped I think. It didn't feel right because my Shiver crown hit the top, add a tiny spacer under the top crown and it feels like buttah now!

Off topic, got the 5th back from service. Took 1 week. Costed me $100 shipped. I had then give me a lighter spring as I wasn't feeling full travel and it was stiff. I got a 450lbs spring now (traded them my 550 for a 450, cost $0). Such a good thing getting it serviced, now its good for summer time :) :) :)

RF is 12mm (1/2") deep, steel and cartridge bearing

the thing that makes the fsa pig pro deep steel so cool is that it has 22mm deep cups (7/8") and both the upper and lower cups are steel, two friends of mine managed to ovalize sky pilots and regular pigs because the upper cup is still alloy. the bearings are cartridge top and bottom, lower one is really big.

I have never seen issues with FSA Pro's. I agree the CK's are nice, but way overkill and hope you never have to remove one for any reason.

The FSA for $40 or so is bad ass and leaves you with more than enough beer money when your done. So until I've seen otherwise, I will never spend $100+ on a headset.

I wouldn't be paying retail in any case ;)
Why would I hope I never have to remove it? Kings are easy to remove, I'm not talking Steelset man:D

Oh, got it. Well, I tend to pay retail because I feel for the guys at my shop (I know what they make and it sucks). Also, I guess I assumed Steelset when I see CK + DH, my bad.

The only CK's I've ever had the "pleasure" of dealing with were Steelsets and the top cup never did come out of one of the frames (So that makes me 3 for 4 on Steelset cup removal).

I feel for the guys at the shop too and thats why I'm working on Sunday, Memorial day weekend, because Bob hasn't had a day off in a month:(
I help them out when I can and they help me out when they can. I 've sent much business their way over the years.

CK, no comparison. The top cup of the fsa feels like it is made of plastic.
yep, for the amount of hype there was surrounding the sky pilot last year, the upper cup was no good.
the dh pro steel is twice as long and steel so a lot better in that area.

maybe its just me but i think for a dh frame there is no other option than a steel HS, with extra insertion.

I didn't think the Pig DH deep headsets were out but I guess they are

http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=2236&category=101

I am pretty confident with my Pig DH Pro headset and the azonic headlock. I wonder how hard it is to ovalize a headtube with a headlock system on and a good DH headset? I always wondered how many peoples headtubes ovalized due to a start nut not getting and holding things tight enough.

I'd have gotten a King, but I really didn't find a need to. I am not that tuff on headsets.

The pigs are really bomber, but for me Id much rather run an aluminum king to save the weight. Some people complain about them breaking, but I have had at least four frames with the same headset for each of my CKs.

Wow, now that's what I call OVERKILL. I was thinking more along the lines of the normal Pig DH Pro.

Hey Zark, is that Cliff Burton for your avitar? That's sweet!!!

I've been running a pig DH for the last two seasons with no problems. Granted the headtube on my balfa is one of the burliest I've seen.:D

I agree, just get the Pig DH Pro and use the other $50 on gas to N* :)

*seeing now gas in SB is what, $2.40 for the cheap stuff*

That deep insert cup headset is a little overkill. I think it's good though for FSA to compete with king on the deep insert headsets. At the price the FSA's can't be beat, but *bling* factor is always the kings, hands down.

its just 110g diff or thereabouts, thats not even 4oz and you pretty much eliminate one of the sources for premature frame death.

If you had a CK creak, it was the install, not the headset. CKs have awesome QC and a 10yr warranty. I wish all products were of the same quality.
