Woman sues Delta over sex toy incident
July 26, 2002 Posted: 3:35 PM EDT (1935 GMT)

CLEARWATER, Florida (AP) -- A woman who says she was pulled off an airplane and asked to take a sex toy out of her luggage after it started vibrating is suing Delta Air Lines, saying she was publicly humiliated.

Renee Koutsouradis, 36, said she was with her husband awaiting takeoff from Dallas in February when her name was called over the loudspeaker.

She said she was met by a Delta security agent who told her something was vibrating in one of her bags. She said she explained it was an adult toy that she and her husband had just bought on a trip to Las Vegas.

She said the agent took her to the bag on the tarmac and made her remove the toy and hold it up, according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday. Some passengers on the plane saw everything, and three male Delta employees "began laughing hysterically" and made "obnoxious and sexually harassing comments."

Koutsouradis was allowed to repack and return to her seat.

A spokeswoman for Delta would not comment on the specifics of the lawsuit.

"We have an obligation to protect the safety and security of passengers," said spokeswoman Katie Connell. "If there's anything questionable about a bag, we have a responsibility to investigate."

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, accusing Delta of negligence, intentional infliction of distress and gender discrimination.

Koutsouradis' lawyer, Brad Tobin, said Delta agents should have escorted her to a private area.

"She was pretty horrified by the treatment," he said. "She never contended that Delta doesn't have the right to investigate a security issue. It was their total lack of professionalism."

I have to agree...there was no need for them to display it in public like that......D

bull ****. If she's embarrassed by that stuff she shouldn’t have it. I'm not taking anybody’s word for something unusual in people luggage. If it was somebody ****ing pace maker acting up I’d ask them to pull it out of there chest. We have the right to be protected. **** her and **** that. I will not become a victim of a crime just because somebody might get embarrassed. this pisses me off.

dont drink coffee or soda's. it's another ploy of the military industrial complex to enslave it's people. Several years ago as rumor has it the government introduced Crack to the ghetto’s but the often overlooked conspiracy is that they also introduced star bucks to the middle class suburbs….

although I understand your concern I just think they could have conducted the search privately away from everyone else...if it was my mom or sister I would be trying to sue also.....D

What/where is the embracement?
I don’t understand. I'm sure she wasnt embarrassed when they were putting that little puppy to use. If she is embarrassed about it that's her hang up and she needs to get over it. Let's keep in mind toys are fun:)

ya know she's probably mad because her husband had it in his ass the whole time and didnt let her have a turn and then stuffed it in her suitcase (so as not to be embarrassed in line.) Oh i bet that's it i understand now:rolleyes:

why would you ever leave the batteries in your vibrator if you knew you were getting on a plane. its such a cliche comedic situation. it was bound to happen.

ps. they should have taken her somewhere private. if i had some ****ty airline attendants making derogatory sexual comments to me first i would have attacked then i would have sued. that was unprofessional but not shocking in the least.

I like your statement Laura. I still disagree that she deserved special treatment by being shuttled off to a separate area but i do believe that "lude" comments are completely unprofessional and inappropriate but we have to define what that is. There is no way i would not have laughed and i quote "its such a cliché comedic situation" but is that the lude comments they are addressing or were there others and what were they.

No one can laugh even if it`s really funny ,or if thats how you deal with some thing that embarrasses you ,I know that some times thats how I deal with things ;) ;) There will be no more laughing if you see any thing that resembles humor ,kill your self cause you are a human not a machine ,What is the worl comming to ,I remember one time my friends tried to play a trick on him so they put a huge dildo in his carry on wrapped in foil to set off the metal detector   ,but the guy found it before going to the air port :( :( :( ,that would have been so funny :D
