He was going rather slowly because he was just getting over a cold. He glanced up as a pickup truck a red Dodge Ram pulled up alongside him to his left.
The driver rolled down his window and proceeded to swear at Stone in a threatening manner.
Stone, having dealt with this kind of behavior before, ignored him and continued to ride at a steady pace.
The driver stopped his taunting and sped up. Stone began to breathe a sigh of relief at being let off with only verbal abuse.
But then he saw a flash of movement out of the corner of his eye, and he felt his world shift simultaneously as his ears processed a series of loud crunches.
He had been hit on the top of his head, and his skull felt heavy, as if a weight had been dropped onto it, and his head spun. His entire body sagged as his bike swerved madly, but he miraculously managed to stay on two wheels.
