So reading vitalmtb mag and read about bears and then looked at NSMB video from that place with a bear too. Are they friendly or whats going on? I would be scary as hell if i knew bears was around But then again i live in sweden and we have zero dangerous animals around.

I think the whistler bears smoke more pot than the locals, so they're very mellow. The only time they seem to care is when you almost land on them, then they just step out of the way and continue on looking for doritos or lucky charms.

Bears at whistler dont give a crap about you as long as you stay away from them, and will likely run off anyway.

We've got em over at Diablo in NJ as well; This Sunday I came across some bear watching drop sessioners who pointed out 3 little bears climbing a tree about 20' from us, at which point I thought 'wheres the momma' and dropped the F on outta there!

As long as you remember that you don't need to be faster than the bear just not slower than your riding partner.

The only time I get worried about bears up there is when I'm camping in a tent. I have seen a bear walking up A-line and standing on the back of a jump and I've heard stories of crashes with bears where the bear gets up and runs away as scared as the rider.

If I ever hit a bear on a trail, I would slap it with my glove and challenge it to a duel.

I saw a ton of them when I was out there, one ran across a-line right infront of us and I road with a kid who crashed into one. They're not a big deal.

A bear crossed A line about 10' behind lopes in his race run yesterday. Crabapple hits usually has one or 2 chilling in the meadow at the top of it.

We've got tons of bears here (I'm 5 minutes from Diablo), I see them all the time when I go XC riding & have never had a problem with them.

Important to note is that these are Black Bears, as I understand it Brown Bears are not so docile, but we don't have those.

At a Canada Cup there back in the day in '95, they tried to get me to go down and clear the course for bears and huge azz logging trucks (old course). I told them that my (fat) buddy was a better selection as the bears would still be hungry if they ate me but would go and hibernate after they ate him....

Ran across a mommy bear and her 3 cubs a few years ago there while heading to ride don't slide. I don't recommend you go and pet them....haha

A few months back, we were running shuttle missions in Pisgah, I came around a high speed corner(35mph+) to see a black bear in the trail. I swerved outside to go behind him, and he took 2 steps back. BANG! I hit him almost dead center. My bike stayed put, as I went tumbling downhill. When I slid to a stop, I looked up I saw a lot of dust....and a big black butt running up through the trees. Surreal.

i was riding in a 3 man train through blind switchbacks to find this cow lying down in the middle of the track.the beast wouldnt move and we had to go over netting and around tape to get passed it..

When I was 15, I was sleeping on a park bench by the park and I felt a tugging at my sleeping bag. I thought it was a buddy, kicked at it and got a couple good hits, hear a roar and I start shrieking. Bear sits up, looks at me, then waddles off through the bushes...I forgot to take down the garbage bag stapled to the end of the bench I've heard a lot of stories just like mine. They just wanna play.
