So I have a GT Ruckus 24. I like the bike, but the rear hub sucks with a similar ferocity to one of these:

yes, the pink one specifically.

The bike is spaced for 110mm hubs, but the dropouts are for 3/8 axle.
Does anybody know a company who makes a hub like that?

I also heard about a "step-down" axle to convert a 14mm one to 3/8, any word on that?

Finally, I read a review of the bike where the rider ended up grinding his dropouts down to fit 14mm. I know that would void the warranty and make re-sale sketchy, but I'm not too concerned about that, I have almost nothing in the bike. As long as it doesn't break.

Thoughts?

I thought my DK Xenia had a 3/8 rear axle and 3/8 slots until i tried to put some new axle nuts on it. It's actually a 10mm axle and 10mm slots--something to keep in mind if you end up getting a new skinny-axle hub. 3/8 is 9.525mm.

Before rear 14mm axles came in bmx, there were companies like Kink and Standard that made really strong 3/8" axles. So you could still run a skinny axle with pegs and it would last pretty well.
