Emerging mountain-bike component brand Box marked its entry into the sport with a display of its new bars, brakes and rear derailleur this week at the Sea Otter Classic.
Since Box doesn`t want to be like Sram and Shimno why not be different and develop something new? Instead you focused on getting around Sram and Shimano patents. Box isn`t different to be better you`re mainly just trying to be different enough to avoid getting sued… What a waste of time and resources.
We don`t need a new player in the derailleur drive train market we need a new player who is going to shake things up by offering a better way to shift gears on a bicycle. We need someone to give us a viable high performance internal gear system.
We need a new player to shake up the market and force the big guys to do some real product development like Sram did to Shimano. Apparently Box won't be that new player.
The question isn`t weight or performance with internal shifting its economic. Its not the R&D costs either. The economic issue is internal geared hubs last the life of the bike with little or no maintenance expense at all. The issue is the loss of millions of dollars in maintenance and service sales. Who can blame Box for wanting in on this cash cow.
I really don`t know what the purpose of describing your design process and challenges as you have is but it does not encourage me to spend XT money on unproven components from a company with unknown financial stability and longevity.
