well the fridge seems to be fixed. Simple power board swap out. took me all of 20 minutes...took photos before I disconnected anything so i could put it back together with the wires in the correct places. Only had two wires that were identical in color and markings so I put a tag on one of them.

Prior to the new board the fridge was at 55 and freezer at 35 on AC, 40 and 12* on propane. Running on AC for the last hour with the new board and the fridge is at 40 and the freezer at 12.

^^^ discussion on that on an RV board. its is a spin out. the SUV is rated to tow 5000 that trailer weighs over 7000...tail wagged the dog. Probably didn't have the brake controller set up right either
Amazing how many people see a tow rating and are content to run right up against the limit. There are few SUVs I'd feel comfortable pulling that kind of weight with.

The TV, a Ford Explorer, was unquestionably overtaxed, but the cause was a following car rear ending the trailer.

So, two weeks ago I make an appointment to have the axles flipped on a friday. I get up at 6 and drive 100 miles to the Camping World dealership, I get there and dude says "maybe we could have it done by next Wednesday". I asked him what he thought an appointment meant..,

:stosh:

Unless they are terrible at their job, that should take them no more than a couple of hours to knock out. It's really not that difficult of a task...

Camping World has a pretty uniformly sucky reputation.

A friend came over to look at the pod today (he also has one) and we actually managed to convince the refrigerator to allow itself to be reinstalled. W00t!

My friend Jamie bought a Jayco Toyhauler. He parks it next to his house here in the city. It is pretty nice. Well built also. Current Bike shed...

So the wife and I might go to RV Palooza at the casino. Make a date out of it with some gambling and buffet witha sh!tload of old folks.. We have it down to a couple, looking about 20' with 2 axles for better towability. My truck is rated for 8500lbs and the Jayco we looked at had a GVW of 6000lbs, so we should be good to go and an upgrade to a diesel will be in a year or 2.

How do you figure "better towability" as an effect of axle count?

Advantages of tandem axle trailers:
  • More stable at highway speeds.
  • Usually have much better suspension.
  • A flat tyre is less of a dramatic event and if it happens the tyre could possibly be changed without using a jack.
  • Tandem axle trailers are safer. If they’re rated to carry 750kg to 2000kg, they are required by law to have brakes, while anything over 2000kg must have brakes on all axles.
  • When properly loaded, a dual axle trailer will bounce less and is less prone to swaying.

Dual axle trailers are more stable and easier to tow by design, at least in my experience they seemed to be. Maybe it is placebo? When I drove a tow truck, my truck could do up to a 40' motor home or 50' trailer. A single axle 18' was harder to deal with than a 30' dual. Again, placebo maybe?

older brother towed his enclosed trailer with his drag car and a friends car with nary a wiggle out of it...

Looks good for a DIY. Not sure about the configuration though (at least not from the perspective of a cycling couple who still likes to sleep with each other). Too much space used up for the shower and shitter. Not much storage, no good place for bikes inside, and I am not down with two smaller, separate beds. There may be some special needs at play here, not sure. In any case, looks like more evidence that the longer wheelbase is the way to go if you really must have a shower inside.

i have seen a more compact idea where the shower curtain and head is enclosed in the overhead storage...bottom of shower curtain drops into a space that is covered when not in use..

The problem out here is finding places to fill propane. Few and far between, and you have to find someplace open...so I guess you also pay for convenience. Last time I had one filled it cost $17, and tge exchange was $21.
