Can I Use A Threaded Fork w/My Current, Threadless Headset?

Is is possible to use a threaded fork in a threadless head tube? I already have a threadless fork in place, but I just received a fork which is threaded (the internet description & photo didn't reveal it was threaded - I just assumed - and YES, I know what they say about assuming).

The diameter is right on the new fork (1 1/8), but I don't want to buy more hardware just to install this $10 rigid fork.

Thanks,

OD

depending on what you plan to do with it (no heavy drops or anything), it shouldn't be a problem. Since you said it only cost $10, I assume ( ) it's going on a "beater" type bike? As long as there is enough steerer to clamp the stem to, you should be able to install it like a normal threadless fork.

Thanks for the input.

I'm converting a cheap Trek 4500 hardtail to a road bike.

No, wait - I'm trying to convert a cheap Trek 4500 hardtail to a road bike. I already put on a decent saddle & IRC road tires.

No dropoffs or such.

I bought this from Bike Nashbar:

And I'm trying to put it in here:

Ultimately, I'd like to toss it on the bike without buying additional hardware. For a non-suspension fork, I'm really surprised how heavy this thing is - wow. And also, mine didn't come out of the box as shiny and sparkly as theirs in the photo. Go figure.

Thanks for the input guys.
