You'll be fine. Java and Shockwave mostly. You may see an ad bar that has a little icon that says "Click here to get the plugin." If you can tie your shoes you can follow the directions.

Now turn your head and cough.

fvckers need to open it up. I've set my UL at 500kb/s and they're only pulling at 30kb/s...

no biggie. P2P is awesome... I've seen movies, listened to music that I would NEVER have seen/heard without it. There's so much good stuff that simply isn't distributed in the good old USA :(

What was this thread about again? :D

what do you mean there is nothing there? 61 thousand files in 36 folders

In IE select Tools at the top. down to Internet Options. Delete files, cookies and clear history.

Have you updated and ran both adaware and spybot?

get spybot. it will solve your prob.

Windows Update

From IE select Help from the top. Select Online Support. From the MS site that pops up select Downloads and Updates from the middle of the page. Next page select Microsoft Windows Updates. From there just read the instructions.

Quit fvcking around with things. The "little friggin things" are your anti-viral, camera, yada ya programs. The area they show up in is your system tray.

Implement a Baysian spam filter...most web based email providers are providing the service.

Filtering spam is difficult. I use Hotmail to deliver all email to the spam box. I then choose the emails I want and tell Hotmail to remember the address. After a couple of weeks I only get emails from people that I want.

OK,

Heres whats up with mine. Everything is all cool now when i boot up. Firefox worked amazingly well until i redid the misconfig thing that ckooi talked about. Well, after that my browser will no longer browse. It just says "page not found" i reopened explorer and it said the same thing.
Also, Outlook cant check mail either. I lost something somewhere. I went back and rechecked all the boxes i unchecked and still nothing. Nothing at all.
What do I do?

Once they've got your email address, you're hosed. Yahoo has a spam filter, and you can tag emails as spam so that next time you get an email from that address it'll be thrown into your spam folder, but realistically, you're screwed. That address will now and forever get hit with porn spam. Time for a new Yahoo address.

When you ran msconfig you disabled your connection to the internet. You are destroying your operating system piece by piece based on advice you're getting here.

A freind of mine hacked a site that was causing constant popup at random times, not even cruising the net and launching random programs, adding things to the desktop and registry. He managed to find the site, hacked the server and deleted all the site files and corrupted the server (I believe). This time when he deleted the files on his computer they didn't come back.

He has mad skizzles.

Burly,

Aside from deleting important system files - (great advise)

You may be a victim of one strain or another of "CoolWebSearch", a really nasty bit of trojan.

It needs to be eradicated BEFORE and after you run Spybot or Adaware. And you may need to do it MANY times and reboot.

More info:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

Download the program there and run them in conjuction w/ Adaware and Spybot. Then repeat.

CoolWebSearch is tricky - Adaware can see it and remove it, but it REINSTALLS itself after you re-boot. A good sign that you have it is browser highjacking, you open IE and it goes to some lame search engine. I know, it did this to me for three days before I got rid of it.

Here's the funny thing - it also gave me a pop-up with advertisements for spyware removal software! I mean, it KNEW I had it, right?

:dead:

I'm not sure how running msconfig can do that, unless you unchecked a system service (which is a different tab.)

Are you sure your connection didn't happen to go down?
