Do we need France's help?

not to create an international RM incident, but I got this in an email today and thought it was funny.

Wasn't France neutral in Viet Nam? Not only that how come they never get any credit for their role in the American Revoluiton. They were one of our biggest allies in the fight for independance.

The French started the whole mess in Vietnam and then left.

Vietnam 1954
French decided to seek a decisive battle at Dien Bien Phu, in Vietminh territory (able to do this w/ air superiority) but Vietminh managed to bring artillery through jungle to use against the base and to cut off air support.
After a siege of 6 months, the French surrendered at Dien Bien Phu and agreed to withdraw from Vietnam.

yes, france was an allie to the colonist as they fought the british, but they did not send any real help till it was evident the colonist were going to win the war (towards the end). That's why they're never given much credit.
