I was at a 24 hour race and a spectator became irate during the prize ceremony when the first and second place womens teams got prizes that were only about half the value of the mens winning teams. The difference being there were only two womens teams where there were 40+ mens teams. At least in amateur racing where prizes come from entry fees it is hard to justify equal prizes when the number of entries for a category is significantly lower.

You would think that since the price money isn't that much that the men and women would get the same amount.
