I put 175 psi in the chamber & had the PP cranked 1 click out from full on. The shock remained unbelieveably supple for slow-small hits & remained firm feeling underneath me.
Have you ridden a 5th Element? If so, if both shocks are set to the same pedaling firmness, which is more supple over small bumps?

....yes, I have ridden the 5th extensively on a Yeti As-X I previously owned. The Fox is MUCH more supple even with the propedal full on. There is no discernible platform to overcome on the Fox. It just feels plush.

.........also, the 500# spring feels good (I need a 600# on a regular RC setup) w/ 150 PSI.....still need to get Fox's recommendation for Psi
this is what i need to figure out, what spring i'll need. Right now i'm on a 400# with no preload, maybe a tad on the stiff side. Frasier suggested a #50 drop, although my thinking it will also depend on the bike.

Did you find the 100# drop in coil perhaps gave a bit more sag than before if anything?

.....well, I am running 100# lighter coil & the sag is spot on....~ 5/8" for a 2" stroke....~31% which is what I prefer. It seems that you can vary it a bit with psi input. To confuse things a bit for everyone....renton springs (RCS) has Ti available for it already as well.....same spring as the manitou swinger. :help: :D

actually running a Manitou coil since they are alot cheaper than the Fox ones. I did need (or felt i needed...ah hell i just like tweeking stuff) to make a shim between the collar and spring sides to keep it properly centered, but this size difference is like a 1mm larger ID than the Fox spring.

Freezin my arse off!
Got my DHX 5.0 yesterday...and had to make a slight mod to get it to fit my small Diesel frame and it just fits.
I had to remove the blue bottom-out cap..but I found it a bitch to turn(anyone else find it hard to turn that sucker?)..so now I just use a wrench to turn it...much easier.
anyone know the recommended PSI setting?
I have it at 150psi (for 155lb rider)
here are some pics

....what is the Ti spring from?

It seems the bottomout adjuster gets easier to move once you've done it a few times.

?????Still toying with psi on mine????

Oh, yes, the infamous DHX. Can't give up all the information just yet, but we've had a couple of these units since Sea Otter and have been testing them over the summer in a controlled enviorment. Couple of notes:

1. Reservoir fit issues. We're making a new end cap that will still be adjustable but offer a lower stack height. ie 5 spot downtube issues.
2. The stock shock is awesome, repeat awesome out of the box and with a few tweaks, can be tuned to exceed your expectations.
3. We hope to have all of the DHX tuning components by the second week of September.
4. DHR meets DHX, what a match up. If only someone new how to make a remote verison....

Trust me, I'm pushing my NC guys as hard as I can without pissing them off. I want the parts fast, but I also want them right.

Darren,

Have you looked into an alternative for the shrader valve? On my spot the biggest concern is the valve. I can live with using a standard box wrench to tune shock if i reallt have to ride without the knob. As far as i can tell the knob really just gives you a visual alignment to the marks on the can of the resivor. I have to stick a 4mm allen like suggested to turn it, so im already having to bust out a tool, why not just use the box wrench? Its a sset and forget thing too isnt it?

The one thing though is the shrader valve gets real close on my medium frame. I was hoping that there could maybe be other stock valves that could be different, shorter or angled...ect, or that the one already on there could be machined to give better clearance. I e-mailed a friend at fox asking if that vavle was easy to replace, and if i could get replacement parts. If i hear anything ill share it to the forums.

Thanks,
damon

Oly,

We're replacing both the end cap and schrader valve for clearance. It doesn't change the function of the volume adjust, just the clearance.

Can I ask you what your weight and spring weight are? I'm ordering one for my L 5 spot, but can't figure out if I should go 500 or 550. I'm 200-205lbs with gear and used a 600 on the Romic, which was ok, but maybe a tiny tad too stiff.

...at the time of the post I was 215-220 lbs & using a 500# spring. I would recommend the 500# spring to you. 550# if you like a real firm ride.

Hey jn... now that you've had the DHX for a bit, got any long-term reviews coming down the pipeline?
...I am one of the fortunate ones who have avoided the "clicking" issues with the DHX. Since I set it up, mine has been problem free. As far as performance, the closest comparison would be to an avalanche ( which I have had extensive experience riding...however, not on my spot ;) ). The shock is a winner! Great all around performing damper for a decent pricetag. I think the 150 psi setting is the best all around setting & the platform you get is incredible considering how plush the shock remains. Again, I haven't ridden it on a DH bike...but for my application on a trailbike, it is absolutely outstanding & I would highly recommend it. Anything in particular you were looking for?

I just wanted to feel "better" about my new purchase - I faxed my order into Fox today... I was really debating RP3 vs. DHX - but ended up going w/ the coil.

Regardless, if/when Darren & Co. get that mod out, I'm going to have to get it for the clearance issues on the med '04 5-spot.
