...was listening to the radio (conservative nutjob radio) and heard a statistic something like "1 out of 3 gay males will either be dead or have AIDS by age 30".
Can anyone confirm or disprove anything like that? I checked out stats at www.aids.gov ,and while the numbers certainly suggest something like that (if you could estimate the total number of gays) I havent seen anything concrete.

If this is the case though, why isnt that a more publicized statistic? That is WAY WAY worse than the percentage of smokers that die of cancer. Should it be treated as that much of a health risk and should steps be taken to stop these unneeded deaths?

That's a 56% death rate, however, as you can see the death rate per infection number has dropped in recent years due to antiretroviral therapies improving. There is also no breakdown by age or gender in those stats.

My father has stage three small cell lung cancer. In his case being gay would have been way safer than smoking.

He's not doing well, just had to have a transfusion because of low red blood count, and the drugs weren't boosting his production enough. His prognosis is bleak, his doctors say with chemo he might live six months (three months ago), without it he'd already be dead.

So is spending 8-10 hours a day in a chair stairing at something 2 feet away, but many more millions of people do it for work and would be considered irresponsible if they didn't.
