At least we don't live in Holland!

lol..... I kid I'm sure Holland is nice, when it's not underwater.

Just finished reading these words of wisdom.

Right now, you look at the glass half full, saying everything is going great.
Im looking at the glass and im thinking the glass is only filled 1/4th. Theres a guy next to it with a can of milk, trying to fill it up, but hes standing on a boat and theres some bad weather.
Now this weather is not the **** storm Fox news claims it to be, but its not a sunny day on a flat ocean either.
So forgive me If I can't take you seriously right now.

As a side note, does milk come in cans over there?

get your kids out of the public school system! its SOCIALIST and you CANNOT let them be indoctrinated!!!!

:panic: :tinfoil:
Actually, can we privatize the school systems? I'm sick of all of the breeders in my neighborhood reaching into my pocket each year to the tune of $4k. If they want to procreate, they should be ready to cough up the $15k/kid/year to educate their little brats. Personal responsibility and all...

Every kid deserves an education.
absolutely. study the test results of the kids who are bussed to "better" schools...the change is negligable at best (speaking specifically of guilford county schools where i have reviewed the stats for a recent research project i did in a community problem solving class i took...i have no idea if those numbers are online or not)
why should my kid have to be at the bus stop at 6am to be bussed 45 minutes across town when there is a school 1.5 miles away? i could understand the betterment of society angle if bussing actually improved opportunity but it's merely a bandaid on a much bigger problem.

:stupid:

Before I moved, I got MadDog enrolled in the "best" school in the district and she started the first day. But I couldn't find a place to live that was in district, so she could either be trucked to the new school, or transfer 2 weeks into the year. She said she didn't like the new school because all the kids focused on material issues instead of learning. She transfered to the school a half mile away and has been way happier.

The scores are nearly the same, but she is happier, so I am happier, too. Plus I don't have to drive her to school.

no sh*t.

I'd provide a much more in depth evaluation of issues of the education system, but I'm drinking scotch right now. But the short version:

I'm a product of public education. My school district also serviced 4 of the 5 housing projects in the region (so as a honkey I was a minority). I got a lot out of my time in the public school system because my parents helped me strive to succeed and saw the value of education. Too many parents these days see school as simply a free baby sitting service.

Thankfully I got out of my school district when I did. The local PD now has several officers on duty at the high school campus at all times.

this is a little off topic but related to the need for cops in schools....all hell has broken loose at one of our schools this week. bomb threats, rapes, guns/drugs and fights all in the same week. it seems the new principle (sp? can never remember which principle/al it is for schools ;) ) has yet to show any backbone and the kids are walking all over him.

one of my boys running down a kid that swung on him while he was trying to break up one of the many fights. go figure that the kid ran right to the news crew ;)

you act like that stuff is abnormal. that stuff happened at my school too, and it happens at a lot of other schools. I remember my first day of high school I saw kids smoking crack out of a lightbulb in the bathroom. I saw a kid get knifed, and somebody else get thrown through a plate glass window. Last 2 months of my freshman year we had bomb threats every week. by my junior year we had to go through metal detectors on a daily basis. one day a kid in one of my classes just stopped showing up. few days later we found out he was killed in a drive-by shooting. and its gotten MUCH worse since I graduated in 2002.

I'm not saying to this to sound like a braggart, but this is the sad reality of our public school system.

it's not too abnormal here either...just thought it was ironic that the local news happened to catch it in progress while i was writing about the subject matter in this thread. down here in the southeast we tend to keep our schools under better control than what you'll find in the massive metro areas but the really bad stuff comes in spurts. i had just started this job when you graduated and it HASN'T gotten any worse....same game, different faces. the crime is the same, the way it's handled varies from administrator to administrator and the current one at this particular school is getting walked on.
