I have to admit, I've been curious about them as well... mainly because I know little of BMC, not that I'm looking to buy one. Just goes to show that sponsorship can pay...

The BMC's have always looked stupid and gimmicky to me, and they are, especially their MTB frames and lower-end road frames. WAY to expensive as well. I also don't like how they try to represent the company like things are actually made in Switzerland. Even their custom TT bike comes from TW.

Road frames are a dime a dozen to me, especially now that almost all of them are at the 15 lb mark. Most Euro companies don't get mountain biking, with the exception of Commencal and Scott...

They actually started here, then they bought schwinn in the early 90s and didn't want to compete against them here in the US, they stopped selling pretty much eveything bike related, and all the US effort went into the Schwinn line the Euro into Scott. Most of the RD is in Europe, although with them brining them back into the US, some has shifted back here.
Scott use to have some really nifty stuff in the old days. The actually still hold the patent for clip on aerobars.
Nope, Easton has the only bicycle industry license to use the CNT technology. There is a very strict, patented way to make the nano resin, and only Easton has the rights to use it for bikes. It's pretty cool to see what the stuff looks like in suspension, it's pretty amazing stuff.indieboy said:
The new Looks use nano in their lugs, not in the tubes. I haven't seen exactly what they're doing, but it must be something different/new, as I Easton's license is excusive for this industry.
BMC's nano frame is made in Easton's factory in Taiwan, which is actually their best carbon facility, their setup in Mexico isn't nearly as high-tech.
I got a chance to check out the new BMC bike a couple of weeks ago, and I was really impressed with the build quality, and how light the frame was. I'd ride one in a heartbeat.

i have their xc frame its pretty interesting, its enourmoususs i got a size 20 and it feels like its a size 2 billion
Still, their '07 bikes look amazing. I have to say that it's probably the biggest year-to-year change in graphics and color that I've seen in a while, and it really, really looks good.indieboy said:

It's not about the weight. Yes, many road frames are sub 1000g-900g mark and they are light, but they don't ride well, crack or are flexy as hell. It's about ride quality, because when there are a multitude of frames out there at the same weight you need something important to distinguish them, and that would be ride quality. I have riden many top carbon frames and by far the best one from a large company is a TREK 5.9 Madone. The SL is lighter but I think the regular Madone rides better, and is still light. Their new 6.9 Madone SL coming out will be incredible, the only sub-900g bike with a horizontal tt, none of this compact-sloping tt crap. I know for sure Mizuno is using it. HIGHLY under rated for their forks - just bought a MR20 Shark and they layup is incredible! I also think Kuota is as well. Chances are those two come from the same Taiwanese carbon farm.the Inbred said:
On a side note, for those of you who've owned a lot of roadie frames: how does high end carbon compare to high end steel, say something like a Look, Time, BMC, Trek to bikes made w/ Foco, OX Platinum, ect...? I know there's a weight disadvantage in steel but for the non-race roadie riders, is it even a factor? And how's about longevity of carbon? Steel can easily reach the 10 year mark at prob 1/2 the cost of a nice carbon... But the cost thing aside, I'm mainly interested in ride quality comparison of the same class (carbon race bikes vs steel race bikes). Yeah yeah, I know, almost no one is racing on steel anymore...
