This post is an invitation to ride the Travesia Montecristo 2008, a three day catered MTB ride through Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, in the area where these three Central American countries meet.

This will be the third annual event. I have ridden both the previous years, in fact I am the only rider to have ridden the complete loop both years.

This is a very well run event in beautiful mountainous countryside, with a lot of fun, enthusiastic riders. My review of the first event is at

http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-172222.html

The event's website is at

http://www.TravesiaMontecristo.com

There are hundreds of photos in the gallery. Sorry the site is only in Spanish, maybe someone can translate. I believe you can register for the event by sending an e-mail. Cost is $100 including two nights in quality hotels, meals, T-shirt, snack breaks, etc.

This event is sponsored by the tourism bureaus of the three countries, for the purpose of generating interest in tourism for the area.

There is a short invitational video on http://www.you-tube.com, do a search for "Travesia Montecristo" and it will come up. At one point in the video you will see a rider in an orange jersey ride by, that is me.

To participate in the event, one would fly into San Pedro Sula, which is the second largest city in Honduras, and take a bus to the tourist town of Copan Ruinas, perhaps a three hour bus ride. If there is a group coming, perhaps the organizers would arrange the pick-up in San Pedro Sula, they are very helpful and love to encourage international participants. Copan Ruinas is a lovely small tourist town with excellent restaurants and facilities.

I have a property in another area of Honduras, about 320 miles away (Honduras is not a small country). There are some excellent long distance loops through the mountains in my area too, if riders want to get in a couple of extra days of riding!

Feel free to post any questions or comments.
