Is it the headest that determines whether you can have 1" or 1+1/8" forks?

I have a frame that currently has forks with a 1" diameter steer tube. I want to fit my other forks that are 1+1/8"? Can this be done or is it a no go?

The head tube is bored to a different diameter on a 1" bike than a 1 1/8" bike. So therefore the headset has to be different, and there's no room to get a 1 1/8" steerer tube in there.

In this case you're probably SOL... unfortunately. :(

Nope can't be done. You gotta find a 1" steerer fork.
