Looking to start the roadie thing. After moving to delaware from New Mexico my full suspension is not needed. My single speed is fine on the hills I can find and I am loving the wide shoulders thanks to the amish buggies.

Need help finding intro level bike is it better to build up frame or get all together. iam looking at a 57-58 cm frame size. i have seen some inexpensive frames on ebay, just not sure of quality. Price is key as I recently had a newborn son so money is tight. Thanks in advance

Give us a budget range, under $1k, $1k - $1.5k...ect. You can pickup a really nice steel framed road for around $1.3K

Kewl, under $1k you might want to try the used market, www.roadbikereview.com or the groups from google: rec.bicycles.marketplace. I kinda haunt those sites just to keep an eye out for deals and I've been seeing some good steel bikes, a few years old, come up w/ really descent prices.

Edit: try this link for the groups - http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.bicycles.marketplace

You can find Jamis Satellite for <$600. It's got a steel frame (Reynolds 631?) and a carbon fork, I think. Yes, it's all low end components, but always focus on the frame. Jamis Quest is better and can be had for a little more. 2004 Fuji Roubaix Pro is 853 steel and can be found for $1000.

But start with getting measured! Buy the right frame, even if the components suck or it's a little more money than you want. Don't start and end with Seat Tube length, don't think Top-tube is good enough. It seems (at least for me) that head tube/steerer length is a factor as well.

And test ride some bikes for at least 30 minutes.

For those of you who follow my new bike buying saga, I'm back to square one. None of the bikes I tested really fit that well. I'm going to a specialist and am gonna pay to get measured up right. I'm gonna take his numbers and see if I can't find a production bike for me. If not, I'm gonna drop $1800 on a True Temper Plantinum custom with 105 from http://www.primusmootry.com -- gonna use my wheels, saddle and pedals to keep the price down-ish.

You'll probably get the most for your $ with a bike from huge co. like Trek or Giant.
I got a Giant TCR1 for $950 in excellent cond. last year on Ebay. Rolf wheels, ultergra, carbon fork and seatpost.
