Ok, can't hold back anymore! Promised myself a new cross bike this year if I got back into riding more, and raced some cross races.

The frame is in, and should be built up soon.

Pics soon....yeah you have to wait.

Excited! :happydance:

Dude.
No pics? I know you're all excited and stuff, but do us a favor and don't get our hopes up of seeing some new badass bike then just let us down.

This forum needs some discipline!

How are you building it? Material? Hell, brand?

Sycip Crossdresser. Jeremy at Sycip was nice enough to tweak the stock geometry for me, I needed a little longer top tube.

SRAM Rival
TRP Euro X carbon brakes
CK headset
Gossamer cranks
Thompson seat post and stem
Salsa short and shallow bars
Mavic Kyserium Elite wheels

With Pedals, it sits at 20 lbs. Not too bad really.

Thanks to Bruce at UNO Bicycle Studios in Littleton, he is da man. :)

You talking tubulars?

I also have a open pro\ultegra wheel set off my old bike, with a new cassete of course.
Tubulars, or nicer clincher wheels. Or ideally, tubeless stuff. The NoTubes ZTr 29'er rims laced up with revolutions and alloy nips on a nice hubset, like White Industries or DT is about 250-300 grams lighter than the wheels you have, stiffer, stronger, and oh-so sweet riding.

For cx racing, good lightweight wheels and the ability to run pressures in the 30's to low 20's is paramount.

I've always had a softspot for the Sycip boys. Have you ever seen their bedframes and shelving? Some awesome stuff!

I'll add to what SD said....for deep mud, deep carbon rims will help you cut through the mud and keep going. Some sections are impossible to ride without deep carbon rims (around here anyway)

Thanks for the comments.

I went for a 12 mile ride on Saturday in the wind to give it a shakedown. I love it!

I honestly do not think I need a 2000$ wheel set to race the 4's in CO. People seem to think you "need" tubulars but I'll bet 85% of the 4's, and many of the 3's race clinchers.

I don't doubt the benefits, but I cant see spending the extra dough. Maybe if I was actually good I would.

You would LOVE the ride of lighter clincher, tubular or tubeless wheels. You'll be amazed how much nice even something like a pair of ultegra hubs on reflex rims with some Challenges will feel. Those mavics you have are nice and bombproof, but light wheels are like huffing nitrous...

Give me some! :imstupid: lol

Maybe in another season, if I improve my bottom 20 finishing next year.

That reminds me feeling I had when in 99 when I got my Mavic CrossMax for the MTB. Nothing like light wheels for sure.
