just got it today, I'll be posting it up elsewhere I guess.

Looks very sweet, and more lightweight for the racer types. I hope they still do the big gusseted version for people like me.

i've been told it's the replacement (already!) for the Nucleon TST. Removing excessive bits (a lot of gussets and the links to actuate the shock) to lower the frame weight and make it cheaper.

The current TST is £4000 and i suspect the new one will be around £3500 or maybe less.

Gearboxes, they're the future alright...

I was at whistler yesterday. i saw several people with the "flintstone" setup. no drivetrain, not even a spider on the drive-side crank. if i was riding whistler every other day, i'd do it to. i couldn't afford to keep buying der and shifters. the market is ready for an internal

sorry for the bad typing, i broke my hand :(

I am sure people do this but why not at least a single speed setup.

Nice version of the Nicoali. How will breaking influence the suspension?

i've seen chainless riders there occasionally, yes. i've always assumed it was the result of a same-day mechanical. i dont really understand how people are destroying drivetrains, though; i ride there regularily & have never had a drivetrain issue...

man i think it sounds totally stupid, i agree...I mean how do you destroy stuff that frequently that you need to go that route, damn run some cheap pos if you have to, but not being able to pedal  that isnt riding...

And i have never ridden whistler but i have ridden alot a few other parks, dont you NEED to pedal???

I can't ride for crap w/o a chain. I need to pedal to shift the bike weight around especially off of drops and stuff.

When I was there last fall saw at least ten-15 people riding with no chain.. No chainrings either.

Depending on what trails you hit.. you could ride Whistler all day long and not miss a chain. The local I was staying with said it was becoming really common.

do they have cranks or pegs at the bb?
If your running a drivetrainless bike it seems that pegs would be the way to go. I wonder if they could cause clearance issues when cornering with drastic lean angles?

wehen i went up there last summer, i snapped my derailer in half the 3rd out of 7 days...rode the rest of the week with nothing spinning...only really sucked when i had to go up to b-line or those trails up there...

I don't think I would ever want a bike with no drive. I mean maybe for a-line but what about the skinnies and stuff in other parts of the park? Or other parts of the planet where you actually need to pedal? I can see it as a fun thing to try out, yah it would help with the flow blah blah blah but no thanks. Chains and gears are not that difficult.

And two side-by-side pegs instead of cranks? Come on.

Just get a scooter. :nope: :p

whistler has their no chain races, you get really good at holding your speed and pumping!

That bike is sweet! I want one.

I think that would be the issue. With a set of crankarms you can still put your weight on the outside pedal, pushing it down, with the inner one up higher, so no worrying about scraping it. You lean a bike more than a dirtbike, and you're lower to the ground too...
I've always wanted to do one of those "chainless" races, looked like fun to me...

Hmmm....it's come a long way from the 2003 Nucleon ST. I've always see people with broken chains and derailleurs. Makes me feel good knowing I don't have to go through that anymore.

So they're using the Rohloff guts then??? I thought they had come up with some freaky new thing. I wonder if the new gearbox bike hesitates in 7-8 gears?

I was thinking of maybe looking into replacing my Rohloff hub and try to fit a Nexus hub in my frame (providing it proves to be decent on the GT bike). It must be lighter.

Funny that it's team SRAM/Nicolai, I reckon. Unless SRAM are developing a top secret G-boxx, that is.

So when's the ethirteen thing (was it superboxx?) supposed to be coming out? I was hoping for pics at Sea Otter, but not so.

Its a mulit year project. worked on 1st gen prototypes over the winter. e.thirteen is going to concentrate on chain retention systems for the time being.

DW isnt this thing on the back burner for the forseeable future? Is it something we will eventually see?
