That's actually a pretty cool idea with the magnets!

None of the other hubs on the market hold oil in though, so I feel like if theirs actually does that then it probably has more drag from the freehub seal anyway. Still, nothing exciting has happened in a while so this will do.

Also apparently ICP still exists and this was on their website:

Its moar expensive...have you not been paying attention?

But if the article is to be believed, it would offer a shit tonne of engagement, less drag and longer service intervals. But more importantly, you'd have magnets in your wheels, which means if you could pick up a misplaced presta valve screw ring by dragging your wheel over the last area you saw it.

Quick q: why is pawls' contribution to the freewheel drag a thing? Why is freewheel drag a thing, considering everything else?

Which version has the 216 Poe, the silent one or the hopelessly loud one?

remember in high school physics when problems told you to ignore coefficient of friction? that's not how things really work

there are separate pawls for the volume, but they don't appear to correlate to POE. (cue "ours goes to 11" jokes). but they do appear as if they would have less contact area with the star drive.

to clarify, it sounds like the POE is 2 different drivers. both have 6 pawls. the high engagement one they are offset 1.66° and engage 2 at a time, the low engagement they are offset 2.5° and engage 3 at a time.

It says HUBSET so I take that to mean F/R correct? This is basically in the KING ballpark for pricing but with Magnets!

So if I want "kind of quiet" or "medium loud", I can mix and match pawls?

Also, hitting a magnet really hard is a way to reduce its magnetism. Would the tiny hammering effect of pawls on the magnets be cumulative over time?

Yeah, but that friction is negligible to begin with, then there's this thing called moment or something like that that makes it completely irrelevant for all practical means, no?

no. put a rear wheel in a truing stand. spin it. see how long it takes to stop. now hold the cassette in place and spin it again. see how long it takes to stop.

Now assemble the bike, put your lard ass on it coasting to a stop on flat pavement, and see if you can measure a difference with and without the bike freewheeling.
