Can't get my mtn bike to shift into low gear. I have tried adjusting the cable tension and adjustment screws, but no luck. It appears there is not enough adjustment remaing in the derailleur to physically allow it to move far enough to shift to low gear. Could it be bent, or is there something I am missing? The chain and cassette are brand new.

    behind you, don't wait up.
Remove the chain and shifter cable and reset low and high limit screws.

Is the cassette the same or similar size as the old cassette? Is the chain long enough?

It'll help if you tell us exactly what derailleur and cassette you're using.
