Fallbrook Technologies Inc.s NuVinci® N360 Drivetrain Enhances Ellsworth Handcrafted Bicycles 2011 Enlightenment 26 Crossover Bike Fallbrook Technologies Inc. (Fallbrook) today announced that its NuVinci® N360 bicycle drivetrain will be featured on Ellsworth Handcrafted Bicycles new 2011 Enlightenment 26 firmtail crossover bike. The N360 is the next generation of Fallbrooks award-winning Continuously Variable Planetary (CVP) transmission for bicycles. Crafted from Ellsworths Rare Earth Carbon, the Enlightenments force directional carbon shapes and lay patterns are topped off with internal cable routing to protect the shifting from the elements. The DMS (Dual Mono Stay) firmtail frame design features an element of absorption, without mechanical articulation, that produces an amazing ride whether its a quick daily commute or an off-road trek on a favorite trail. The Enlightenments unique dropout design accommodates the NuVinci N360s drive with a belt or a chain. The NuVinci CVP is a significant "shift" in drivetrain technology, transmitting mechanical power with spheres instead of gears. With an unlimited number of ratios available within its nominal 360% ratio range, the N360 enhances the Enlightenments performance with seamless, continuous shifting (even under high pedal torque), without power interruptions, missed gears or dropped chains. Compared to the original NuVinci bicycle drivetrain featured on Ellsworths Ride Cruiser and Commute bikes, the N360 model is now over 30% lighter, 17% smaller and has an increased ratio range. Shift effort is significantly reduced even under high pedal forces and there is 50% less twist rotation required to move between the lowest and highest ratios. For better protection, the hub interface is now housed inboard of the frame dropout. After providing our first generation NuVinci CVP drives for Ellsworths award winning Ride bicycles, we are now pleased to continue the relationship with Ellsworth by enhancing his beautifully designed Enlightenment 26 with our new N360 drive, said Alan M. Nordin, Fallbrooks Bicycle Division President. The N360s smaller and lighter design combined with the industrys smoothest and easiest shifting provides for the ultimate Enlightenment riding experience whether its on or off the road For more information on the Ellsworth Enlightenment 26 featuring the NuVinci N360 drivetrain, contact Ellsworth Handcrafted Bikes at 760-788-7500 or visit Ellsworth Bikes on the web. Fallbrook Technologies Inc. is a technology and manufacturing company dedicated to improving the performance and flexibility of transmissions for vehicles and equipment. Fallbrooks NuVinci® continuously variable planetary (CVP) technology is applicable to machines that use a transmission such as bicycles, light electric vehicles, automobiles, agricultural equipment, and wind turbines, among others. The NuVinci CVP uses a set of rotating and tilting balls positioned between the input and output components of a transmission. Tilting the balls changes their contact diameters and varies the speed ratio. The NuVinci platform offers companies the flexibility to design and produce next-generation products that are better tailored to their unique business, market and competitive requirements. Fallbrook has built an extensive portfolio of over 350 patents and patent applications worldwide. For more information, visit Fallbrook Technologies.
