so I belong to a few on a passive basis, not looking, but hey, I'll tap dance...

So I got an email, basic hello, I replied, yada yada, here's her re: to my re: (aka her 2nd email)...

My Dear
How are you over there?.
As for me,i am fine here in Daker Senegal.
My name is Miss Amanda Achi, from ivory coast in
west Africa presently residing in the refugee
camp here in Dakar due to the civil war going
on in my country.
My late father Dr Mustafa Achi , was the personal
advicer to the former head of state before the rebels
attacked my house one early morning killing my mother
and my father.
It is only my brother and me that is alive now and we
managed to make our way to near by country Senegal
where we are living now.
I would like to know more about you.
Your likes and dislikes, your hobbies and what you are
doing presently.
I will tell you more about myself in my next mail.
I attach here my picture for you, though i am not all that photogenic,i hope you would'nt mind.
I wait to hear from you soonest.
Miss Amanda Achi.
my reply...

heya, just in case this isn't a scam and you're being sincere... the next guy you write, quote something from his profile and actually comment on it. This will at least let him know that he's not talking to software generating responses. If it is a scam, I'm curious as to where it's going, so feel free to try to take advantage of me, should be fun.

If it's not a scam... how'd you survive the rebels? Maybe I've just seen too many movies, but I figure rebels would just kill everyone that could oppose them. Also, what kind of refuge camp are you in that you've got internet access? Again, it could just be my stupid american movie influenced thinking, but I always thought refuge camps were all kinds of suck?

Yours truly,
steve

hahaaha, thats a scam!!!!!!

I know a guy here in Lima who owns one of those things. they charge like 25 bucks a regular girl (desperate souls who want to get married with US-ers just to flee the country), and get a few hot local girls pictures to make up stuff, and get their clients in the US with ads in porn magazines.

and then for the "meet each other trip" they charge like 2000 bucks, and for the marriage like 10k.

what a ripoff.

so, what's a reasonable price?

IF the two people fell in love, then $12,000 is rather cheap... assuming the company actually got the girl married off and got her the legal right/citizenship necessary for her to stay.

i recognize that you're just trying to stir the pot  but i think that such outfits should not be allowed to exist. my objections don't come from the financial aspect of it so much as that they are promoting relationships that are almost certainly destined to fail (or at least not be healthy). when two people start out from such ridiculously different positions of relative power, affluence, not to mention the language barrier in the u.s. -- and don't give me any guff here about "dating across class" in america or other such nonsense as this is clearly of an entirely different order of magnitude -- then problems surely will surface. perhaps it's the ideal service for a man looking for a subservient bedmate but that's not "love" in my book.

its not only the money what makes it a scam.

the reason I wasn't trolling is cuz I know a few peeps who did stuff like this and it worked out well. One guy in particular picked himself up a bride from the phillipines... the town leaders/responsible parties made the guy visit several times, spend time there, getting to know him and he them and her. She didn't sound subservient. She seemed rather educated. And there had been a number of successful matches.

exceptions to the rule? perhaps.

whats the difference??
one is a fake marriage in which both know its a fake marriage.
the other is a fake marriage in which both know its a fake marriage, but think the other doesnt know.

That means nothing. The Montashu is like 15 and the next Einstein and Jan Ullrich.
